About the Job

General Summary of Position
Serves as the accountable leader for medication preparation pharmacy automation and distribution systems as well as continual regulatory readiness programs in accordance with all federal and state laws relating to the storage compounding and distribution of medications and the provision of pharmacy services. Works collaboratively within the highly integrated cross-functional matrix driven pharmacy leadership team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall pharmacy supply chain including - drug product selection formulary maintenance and development inventory control and drug management.
  • Responsible for management of personnel supervises hiring evaluating disciplining grievances and training among the team managed as outlined by departmental organizational structure.
  • Serves on the MedStar WHC Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Assists with hospital pharmacy department policy and procedure development.
  • Reviews and recommends department's supply chain related initiatives.
  • Responsible for planning organizing and developing the annual budget for approval. Maintains hospital's HRSA/OPA (340B) requirements and works collaboratively to oversee data management to support compliance.
  • Works with the pharmacy management team to manage the department's operations/fiscal assets in accordance with WHC policy/procedures & sound business practices and contributing to the fiscal success of the department and WHC. Responsible for contributions to strategic plan development of departmental goals and objectives as well as implementation of plan.
  • Responsible for reports and information as required by legal regulatory and accreditation agencies and the Sr. Director of Pharmacy.
  • Responsible for successfully interfacing with other care givers and department leaders in resolving problems relating to pharmacy and improving service where indicated.
  • Represents the department as a member of specific standing and ad hoc committees.
  • Assists with planning development implementation and evaluation of departmental research activities.
  • Supervises and evaluates the performance of central pharmacy operations Clinical Nutritional team and shares responsibility for the drug information / drug policy specialist.
  • May place orders for supplies verifies receipt of merchandise and approves bills for payment.
  • Consults with and advises staff with respect to the effects of medications etc.
  • Maintains current knowledge of technical and business developments and communicates relevant information to the work group.
  • Minimal Qualifications
    Education
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited American Council of Pharmaceutical Education Pharmacy Program required
    • Doctoral degree in Pharmacy preferred
    • Candidates who are graduates of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency program (PGY-1) and/or ASHP-accredited Health System Pharmacy Administration residency program preferred
    Experience
    • 5-7 years required
    • 10+ years preferred
    • Candidate that can demonstrate progressively more responsible pharmacy experience including two years of experience in staff and operations management preferred
    Licenses and Certifications
    • PHARMD - Licensed Pharmacist in the District of Columbia or eligibility for reciprocity required

    This position has a hiring range of

    USD $161,158.00 - USD $348,296.00 /Yr.
