Work Shifts

8:00 A.M - 4:00 P.M (35 Hours/Week, Monday through Friday)

Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose:

Under the general direction of the Chief Nurse Executive is responsible for the direction, coordination and control of the functional activities of the Critical Care Department.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Critical Care Department collaborating with the Chief of Medicine and the Chief Nurse Executive.
• Interpret policies and objectives of nursing services to staff and community groups; promotes harmonious working relationships with other departments/community groups.
• Assumes responsibility for the selection of personnel for service.
• Keep abreast of current nursing technology and professional techniques and disseminate the latest developments in the field to nursing staff.
• Conducts/participates in meetings/conferences/seminars with various health care-related hospital committees/outside agencies.
• Direct, coordinate and control the execution, implementation, and revision of departmental policies/procedures to assure attainment of nursing department goals/objectives.
• Investigate nursing care deficiencies/complaints, prepare responses and follow up on corrective action.
• Serves as a resource person and assumes responsibility for the Nursing Department as designated on weekends and holidays.
• Monitor and follow up on patient care incidents to ensure adequate reporting and corrective action as necessary.
• Ensures compliance in accreditation/regulatory, TJC standards, and participates in surveys and performance improvement activities. Ensures patient and staff safety.
• Other responsibilities as delegated by the CNO

Minimum Qualifications
1. Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State; and,
2. A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or an equivalent field, and a minimum of four years of high-level responsible experience in nursing administration, three years of which shall have been in a hospital; or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent. However, all candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice as a Professional Nurse in New York State.
