Full Job Description
The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for leading Jefferson Center's integrated marketing, communications, brand, public relations, and strategic growth initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Growth & Strategy Officer, this leader serves as the organization's Public Information Officer and is responsible for advancing Jefferson Center's reputation, market presence, referral growth, community engagement, and strategic business development objectives.

The Director develops and executes comprehensive communications and marketing strategies that strengthen brand awareness, increase community engagement, support client acquisition and retention, expand referral partnerships, elevate donor and stakeholder engagement, and position Jefferson Center as a leading provider of innovative behavioral health services. This role works collaboratively across all lines of business to support organizational growth, strategic priorities, advocacy efforts, and public awareness initiatives.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business Administration, Public Affairs, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in marketing, communications, public relations, business development, stakeholder engagement, or related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership and team management experience.
  • Experience leading integrated marketing and communications strategies within healthcare, behavioral health, nonprofit, public sector, or highly regulated industries preferred.
  • Demonstrated success supporting organizational growth, brand development, stakeholder engagement, client capture and conversion, and strategic initiatives.
  • Strong strategic planning and business acumen with ability to drive change and results quickly.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Expertise in media relations, public relations, crisis communications, digital marketing, brand management, and content strategy.
  • Ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable strategies.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders and influence organizational outcomes.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.


Essential Duties:

Marketing, Brand & Strategic Growth

  • Develop and execute an integrated marketing, communications, and brand strategy aligned with Jefferson Center's strategic plan, growth objectives, and service expansion priorities.
  • Lead market positioning efforts that enhance awareness, utilization, and adoption of Jefferson Center services across communities, referral sources, employers, payors, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Partner with organizational leadership to support business development initiatives, market expansion opportunities, new services, strategic partnerships, and revenue diversification efforts.
  • Develop targeted marketing campaigns that drive client engagement, increase referrals, and support organizational growth goals.
  • Monitor market trends, community needs, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities to inform strategic marketing and growth initiatives.
  • Support the development of growth plans, service line expansion strategies, and community engagement initiatives designed to increase access and organizational impact.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and analytics to evaluate campaign performance, return on investment, audience engagement, referral growth, and market reach.


Communications & Public Relations

  • Lead the development and dissemination of internal and external communications, including media relations, public relations, executive communications, publications, digital content, social media, websites, newsletters, sharepoint, and marketing materials.
  • Serve as Jefferson Center's Public Information Officer and primary communications representative during media engagements, community events, public speaking opportunities, and organizational announcements.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with media outlets, journalists, elected officials, community leaders, and strategic partners.
  • Develop and distribute press releases, statements, thought leadership content, success stories, and public awareness campaigns that elevate Jefferson Center's mission and impact.
  • Ensure consistent brand messaging, voice, visual identity, and communications standards across all organizational channels.
  • Lead organizational crisis communication planning and response efforts, ensuring timely, coordinated, and effective messaging during critical situations.
  • Support executive leadership by developing key messages, presentations, speeches, talking points, reports, and organizational updates.


Internal Communications & Organizational Engagement

  • Develop and implement an internal communications strategy with collaboration with Human Resources that strengthens employee engagement, organizational culture, transparency, and alignment with Jefferson Center's mission and strategic priorities.
  • Support executive and senior leadership communications to ensure employees are informed, engaged, and connected to organizational initiatives and changes.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and leadership teams to promote workforce initiatives, culture-building activities, employee recognition programs, and change management communications.
  • Drive communication strategies that support organizational transformation, strategic initiatives, and enterprise-wide implementation efforts.
  • Monitor and analyze internal communication channels, social media platforms, public sentiment, media coverage, and stakeholder feedback to identify emerging issues, communication opportunities, workforce concerns, and reputational risks. Provide insights and recommendations to leadership to inform organizational decision-making and proactive communication strategies.


Community Relations, Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop communication and engagement strategies that strengthen relationships with referral partners, healthcare providers, schools, municipalities, community organizations, employers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Support stakeholder engagement efforts that advance Jefferson Center's advocacy, partnership, and community impact goals through management of website and social media channels as well as internal and external communication channels.
  • Represent Jefferson Center at community meetings, conferences, public events, coalitions, fundraisers, signature events, and professional associations.
  • Support and collaborate with Philanthropy, Community Engagement, and Business Development teams to support donor engagement, fundraising campaigns, sponsorship opportunities, and strategic partnerships.


Digital Strategy & Innovation

  • Lead Jefferson Center's digital marketing strategy, including website optimization, social media, search engine optimization (SEO), paid advertising, content marketing, and audience engagement initiatives and conversion strategies.
  • Leverage data, technology, and emerging communication platforms to enhance community engagement, client acquisition, stakeholder communications, and organizational visibility.
  • Oversee website governance, content management, and digital user experience strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Technology team to support and optimize website performance including digital front door and client capture and conversion.


Leadership & Management

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development to the Marketing and Communications team.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and innovative department aligned with organizational goals and growth strategies.
  • Manage departmental budgets, vendor relationships, contracts, and external marketing and communications partnerships.
  • Contribute as a strategic leader in organizational planning, growth initiatives, and enterprise decision-making by partnering across departments to advance organizational priorities, support leadership initiatives, facilitate internal and external communications, and develop communication assets including executive messaging, toolkits, media kits, talking points, presentations, press releases, and materials that drive alignment, engagement, and organizational growth.
  • Provide strategic communications support to executive leadership by maintaining a strong pulse on organizational activities, workforce engagement, emerging issues, and industry trends. Develop and manage employee communications, executive messaging, board reports, organizational updates, presentations, and leadership materials that foster transparency, alignment, engagement, and understanding across the organization.
  • Routinely evaluate and report on departmental performance, communication effectiveness, marketing outcomes, and growth-related metrics. Provider routine productivity and impact reports to leadership to ensure initiatives are monitored for success

Provide regular productivity and impact reporting to leadership, leveraging data and insights to measure success, inform decision-making, and drive continuous improvement across marketing, communications, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Participate in Senior Leadership Team meetings and organizational planning activities.
  • Maintain availability for company sponsored events, community events, media engagements, public presentations, and stakeholder meetings, including evenings and weekends when necessary.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, adaptability, collaboration, and commitment to Jefferson Center's mission, vision, and values in order to represent Jefferson Center in a professional manner.
  • Maintain effective relationships with clients, employees, leadership, vendors, community partners, donors, public officials, and media representatives.
  • Utilize data-driven decision making and continuous improvement practices in all areas of responsibility.
  • Possess reliable transportation for travel to meetings, company events, community events, and organizational locations.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Salary Range: $94,100 - $116,700*

Additional Salary Information*:

  • The salary range above is based on 1.0 FTE (full time equivalent) or 40 hours per week. Less than 40 hours/week will be prorated and adjusted to the appropriate FTE.*
  • Jefferson Center pay is determined by various factors including education level, licensure level, years of relative experience, and internal equity amongst current staff.
