Full Job Description
1. Monitors activities of technicians and non-technical staff; assigns work stations; monitors and enforces adherence to Laboratory Policies and Procedures during assigned shift and coordinates intersection work flow.

2. Manages all aspects of department and staff to include overseeing the hiring and training of staff, timesheets, and employee relations.

3. Participates in PI Teams when needed and provides PI trending information to identify opportunities for improvement.

4. Responsible for all lab functions under the hospital include with the rural health clinics and express lab locations.

5. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues. Reports employee injuries using occurrence report within 24 hours of injury

6. Reviews departmental job descriptions and policies minimally annually

7. Reviews and signs-off on high complexity tests performed by MLTs.

8. Keeps abreast of new procedures and protocols for assigned sections of the laboratory.

9. Helps to keep adequate stock of controls and reagents by adding depleted reagents and controls to the order list.

10. Participates in the general operation of the laboratory, cooperating in planning shifts to be covered and other planning activities.

11. Helps with meeting regulatory requirements of various agencies that have an effect on laboratory policies. (The Joint Commission, OSHA, CLIA, etc.)

12. Responds to inquiries and /or requests from management regarding departmental issues in a timely manner.

13. Interviews and selects departmental staff following hospital guidelines.

14. Cost conscious attitude and performance with time usage, materials, and supplies.

15. Identifies accountability and responsibility of staff according to job description

16. Conducts performance competencies and evaluations on staff timely.

17. Performs ongoing monitor of patient results, quality control, calibration and equipment maintenance

18. Ensures adherence to collection policy and procedures, ensuring patients are instructed regarding specimen collection and that documentation is completed on collected information.

19. Calibrates, standardizes, and monitors instruments, applying acceptability criteria.

20. Uses QC system to evaluate data relative to QC criteria; takes remedial action when needed.

21. Assumes full responsibility for coherent, legible, prioritized reporting of results.

22. Solves problems, troubleshoots malfunctioning instruments and systems; isolates, corrects, and documents causes of instrument and systems failures.

23. Reviews service contracts. Develops capital equipment needs for lab.

24. Ensures start up/completion of work conforming to schedules and productivity standards are met.

25. Ensures staff respond to acceptable of priority specifications - (STAT, Urgent, Now, ASAP, Timed, etc.)

26. Is aggressive with handling work situations promptly. Ensures promptness of greeting and drawing specimens on outpatients, answering the telephone, going out on the floor to draw specimens from patients, responding to the ER requests, and generally demonstrating a positive, productive, work attitude.

27. Ensures panic values protocols are followed.

28. Any other duties assigned as needed to help drive our Mission and abide by our organizations values.
