Full Job Description
The Director of Information Technology is a hands-on leadership role responsible for building and executing the technology strategy that will support Kinsley Steel's next phase of growth. This role oversees the IT while remaining directly engaged in day-to-day technical decisions, architecture, and problem-solving.

This role partners closely with executive leadership to translate business goals into a technology roadmap, and serves as the primary escalation point for complex technical, security, and infrastructure decisions.

Leadership & Team Management
  • Directly supervise, mentor, and develop the IT team, setting clear priorities, performance goals, and professional development plans.
  • Remain hands-on with critical technical work, escalated issues, and complex projects where senior-level expertise and architecture knowledge is required, rather than operating purely at a strategic level.
  • Build department structure, workflows, and documentation standards appropriate for a growing, multi-location organization.
  • Own the IT budget, including forecasting, capital planning, and cost optimization across all locations.
  • Negotiate and manage contracts with technology vendors, managed service providers, and software partners.

Strategy & Business Alignment
  • Partner with Kinsley Steel business leadership to define and execute a multi-year technology roadmap that supports the company's growth strategy.
  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies - including automation and AI - that can create efficiencies across estimating, detailing, fabrication, project management, and back-office functions.
  • Serve as the key technology advisor to the business leadership as well as in strategic planning and capacity planning discussions.
  • Oversee the delivery of end-user services, including help desk and technical support services.

AI Strategy & Governance
  • Develop and lead the company's approach to responsible AI adoption, identifying practical use cases, evaluating, and piloting AI-enabled tools.

Cybersecurity & Risk Management
  • Own and modernize the company's overall cybersecurity strategy, including network security, endpoint protection, identity and access management, and data protection.
  • Establish and maintain security policies, incident response plans, and disaster recovery/business continuity procedures across all locations.

Enterprise Systems & Infrastructure
  • Own the performance, integration, and roadmap for key business systems ensuring they effectively support the business.
  • Oversee network architecture, servers, cloud infrastructure, end-user devices, and business applications across all locations.
  • Provide technical leadership in key technologies including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, ERP/manufacturing/project systems, and data platforms.
  • Evaluate, select, and implement new hardware, software, and infrastructure solutions to support business efficiency and scalability.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in information technology, including at least 5 years in a leadership or management role overseeing IT staff and strategy.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cybersecurity strategy, including security frameworks, incident response, and disaster recovery planning; relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, Security+) preferred.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing AI tools and establishing governance, data use, or acceptable-use policies a strong plus.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise networking (Cisco/Meraki), Active Directory, Microsoft 365, virtualization (VMWare/Hyper-V), and backup/recovery solutions (e.g., Veeam).
  • Experience with, or strong aptitude for, construction or manufacturing-related software such as Trimble Viewpoint, Tekla, and AutoDesk strongly preferred.
  • Proven experience managing IT budgets, vendor contracts, and supplier negotiations.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-development skills, with the ability to remain hands-on with technical work as needed.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities across locations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical business leaders.
  • Ability to travel periodically to other company locations.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
