Mandarin Oriental, Boston is looking for a Director of Food & Beverage Operations to join our Restaurants, Bars, & Experiences team.

About the job

Based at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston within the Restaurants, Bars, & Experiences division in Boston, Massachusetts, the Director of Food & Beverage Operations is responsible for the strategic leadership, financial performance, and operational execution of all Food & Beverage outlets, with specific oversight of Banquets & Catering, In-Room Dining, and Food & Beverage Storytelling & Experiences. This role serves as a key commercial and operational partner, ensuring exceptional guest experiences while driving revenue growth, market awareness, and brand differentiation.

The Director of Food & Beverage Operations will work closely with the Commercial team to develop innovative programming, signature events, strategic partnerships, and compelling storytelling initiatives that elevate the hotel's positioning within the local community and luxury hospitality marketplace.

The Director of Food & Beverage Operations reports to the Hotel Manager. The Assistant Food & Beverage Manager, In-Room Dining Manager, and Executive Banquet Chef report to the Director of Food & Beverage Operations.

As Director of Food & Beverage Operations, you will be responsible for the following duties:

Strategic Leadership
  • Provide visionary leadership and direction for all Food & Beverage operations.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans that align with hotel business objectives, revenue goals, and brand standards.
  • Drive innovation and continuously enhance the guest experience through creative programming, culinary experiences, and service excellence.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across all F&B teams.


Banquets & Catering
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and financial performance of all banquet and catering operations.
  • Ensure flawless delivery of weddings, corporate events, social functions, VIP experiences, and hotel-led activations.
  • Partner closely with the Commercial team to maximize catering revenues and conversion opportunities.
  • Develop unique event concepts that strengthen the hotel's reputation as a premier destination for gatherings and celebrations.
  • Continuously evaluate service standards, operational efficiencies, and profitability of banquet operations.


In-Room Dining
  • Lead and elevate the in-room dining experience to reflect the hotel's luxury positioning.
  • Develop innovative menus and service enhancements that improve guest satisfaction and increase capture rates.
  • Monitor service delivery, quality standards, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Identify opportunities to create distinctive experiences that differentiate the hotel from competitors.


Food & Beverage Storytelling & Experiences
  • Curate and lead storytelling initiatives that bring the hotel's culinary identity to life.
  • Work with chefs, beverage leaders, and marketing teams to create authentic narratives around menus, ingredients, local culture, sustainability efforts, and partnerships.
  • Develop experiential dining concepts, seasonal activations, chef collaborations, wellness-focused offerings, and destination experiences.
  • Ensure consistency of brand messaging across all guest touchpoints and platforms.


Commercial Team Partnership
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Commercial team in driving awareness, revenue generation, and guest engagement.
  • Develop annual calendars of special events, culinary activations, promotions, and partnership opportunities.
  • Collaborate on public relations initiatives, media events, influencer experiences, and community outreach efforts.
  • Support the creation of compelling marketing content, social media storytelling, and promotional campaigns.
  • Participate in key business development opportunities, sales presentations, and client entertainment events.


Local Partnerships & Community Engagement
  • Identify and cultivate meaningful relationships with local businesses, luxury brands, cultural institutions, chefs, artisans, beverage producers, and community organizations.
  • Create partnerships that enhance visibility, strengthen the hotel's market presence, and deliver unique guest experiences.
  • Position the hotel as a recognized culinary and social destination within the local market.
  • Represent the hotel at industry events, networking functions, and community initiatives.


Financial Management
  • Achieve and exceed revenue, profit, and productivity targets across all Food & Beverage operations.
  • Manage budgets, forecasting, labor costs, food and beverage costs, and capital expenditures.
  • Identify opportunities to drive incremental revenue and improve margins.
  • Analyze business trends and implement strategies to optimize financial performance.


Talent Development & Leadership
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain high-performing leaders and colleagues.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and succession plans.
  • Promote a culture focused on luxury service, innovation, teamwork, and professional development.
  • Lead by example and champion employee engagement initiatives.

As Director of Food & Beverage Operationswe expect from you:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role; experience in luxury hospitality is strongly preferred.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze complex financial data and translate results into operational action.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage change in a high-volume environment.
  • Effective management, leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Complete administrative proficiency. Knowledge of purchasing, inventory controls, supplies and equipment.
  • Reading, writing, and oral proficiency in the English language.
  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of the shift; ability to frequently push, pull, and lift carts or items weighing up to 25 pounds.


Desirable:
  • College degree in Hospitality Management or a similar field.


Compensation:

The salary range for this position is $115,000-125,000 annually.
