  • Support ad hoc analysis and special projects, including due diligence for mergers or lateral hiring.
  • Monitor and report on matter-level and client-level profitability.
  • Supervise and develop Financial Analysts or FP&A staff as needed.

Position Summary

Ogletree Deakins has the opportunity for a Director of Financial Planning and Analysis to join our Corporate Accounting and Finance department. The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) is a key member of the Finance Department, responsible for leading the firm's financial modeling and profitability analysis functions. This role partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer, firm leadership, Shareholders, Practice Groups and Office Leaders to provide data-driven insight that supports strategic decision-making, financial performance management, and long-term planning.

Essential Functions

  • Leads the annual revenue budgeting process and periodic revenue forecasting cycles for the firm, practice groups, and offices, in partnership with the CFO and Controller.
  • Builds and maintains financial models to support long-range planning, scenario analysis, and capital allocation decisions.
  • Analyzes firm, practice group, office, and attorney-level financial performance, including revenue, realization, utilization, and profitability trends.
  • Prepares hours-based financial reporting packages and various timekeeper reports and dashboards, including Intellistat, for the CFO, Executive Committee, and Shareholders.
  • Supports ad hoc financial analysis and special projects requested by firm leadership, including merger/lateral partner financial due diligence.
  • Analyzes matter-level and client-level profitability on an ongoing basis and reports findings to firm leadership.
  • May directly or indirectly supervise Financial Analysts or other FP&A staff, providing coaching, review, and development.
  • Builds strong working relationships with Shareholders, attorneys, and administrative department leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field; MBA or CPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or team-leadership experience.
  • Experience with Elite Enterprise, Aderant, or a comparable legal financial or practice management system.
  • Experience with business intelligence and data visualization tools such as Power BI or comparable platforms.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis or corporate finance, with prior law firm or professional services experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and profitability analysis.
  • Must be professional, client-service oriented, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong financial analysis, modeling, and forecasting skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and sound business judgment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present financial data to non-financial audiences.
  • Technical skill to gather and evaluate data using both traditional and non-traditional tools and resources.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel (including advanced modeling functions), Outlook, SQL, and internet search engines.

Wage Transparency

In accordance with Illinois Equal Pay Act Transparency Notice, the expected salary range for this Illinois position is between $209,100 and $278,800. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. The application deadline for this position is December 31, 2026.
