JOB DESCRIPTION - DIRECTOR OF FINANCE
JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Director of Finance will ensure the timeliness and accuracy of all daily, weekly, monthly and annual financial information. Supervise the accounting department and ensure all corporate and brand accounting policies and procedures are carried out. Ensure prompt and courteous service to guests. Effectively manage time and meet or exceed productivity standards. Provide financial guidance and support by serving on hotel executive committee.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Select, train, schedule, supervise, discipline, and counsel accounting employees.
- Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics which inspire employees to exceed standards.
- Direct the development and implementation of internal control to ensure the security of hotel assets and the accurate recording of assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and other transactions.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
- Assure hotel meets internal and external audit standards.
- Assist General Manager and Corporate Controller in preparation of annual budget, and update forecasts throughout the year as required by the management company.
- Provide financial oversight of the capital expenditure process.
- Distribute and monitor monthly departmental checkbooks.
- Assist department heads with monthly invoices and accruals.
- Ensure that all licenses, permits and insurance policies are current and are following local, state and federal laws. Monitor all contracts and agreements and advise hotel management of the terms, conditions, and benefits.
- Periodic audits of cash on hand.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirect supervisory responsibilities for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable/General Cashier. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
REQUIREMENTSBachelor's degree in accounting or finance, at least three years in the hospitality industry in a supervisory position within the accounting department.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEPost high-school coursework in accounting. Previous experience as Director of Finance or Controller at a similar size and type of hotel, previous experience as department head at same facility. Experience with M3, Profit Sword and Hotel Effectiveness is highly desired.
LANGUAGE SKILLSExcellent speech communication skills are required to communicate both in person and via telephone with guests, employees and corporate contacts in a professional and extensive manner. Excellent literacy is required. Must be able to both assimilate and generate explicit and concise documents for publication within the hotel and management company environment
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to calculate amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Must be able to use appropriate judgments as it pertains to supervisory duties.
HOURSDue to the business demands of the hospitality industry, and the fact that the hotel provides guest services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, any employee may be required to work rotating shifts, including weekends, night shifts, and/or overtime.
