A DAY IN THE LIFE

A day in the life as a Director of Estimating is focused on leading and aligning all preconstruction efforts to drive successful project awards and support overall business growth. You’ll oversee estimating teams, guide strategy on bids and pricing, and collaborate closely with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are positioned competitively while maintaining profitability. Throughout the day, you’ll balance high-level planning with hands-on involvement—reviewing estimates, solving challenges, and stepping in where needed to keep timelines on track. You’ll also focus on building strong relationships, developing your team, and ensuring alignment across departments. This is a fast-paced, high-impact role that requires strong business acumen, leadership, and flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities while consistently delivering results.

STEP INTO THE ROLE

  • Oversee the management of preconstruction process and teams in the Blattner renewable market, including an interface point with supply chain, (equipment, materials field execution, and engineering) Scheduling, and engineering.   Collaborates closely with Commercial Operations and the field execution teams to facilitate the estimating process regarding development and improvement. Ensures the business strategy and plan is recognized and followed.
  • Partners with the Directors of Construction to ensure the appropriate individuals from the field execution teams are involved during the bid process along with ensuring a smooth and excellent handoff is performed at award. Monitoring the preconstruction process to ensure Managers are properly following the schedule to keep engineering, estimating and material procurement on track for successful project execution. Ensures the project closeout process is performed and information flows back to the estimating/procurement group through developed processes.  Creates and utilizes opportunities with project teams to ensure that lessons learned are fully developed to improve competitive position.  Is a champion of the Blattner Energy, “Product Delivery Stream.”
  • Partners with the estimating group to produce a high-quality estimates along with ensuring processes that produce professional RFP submissions that support an overall business and procurement approach including:, Contract Terms, System Design, Supply Chain, Schedule, Price, Quality, Safety, Risk Mitigation, Value  Engineering, Financial Modeling, Creative Ideas, Approach, Pre-Qualified subcontractors/suppliers/vendors, Level 1& 2 Bid Reviews; and other pertinent estimating requirements. Ensures by review and mentoring that changes to scope, schedule, and risk are all known and accounted for in final pricing and that proper contingency planning is in place for unknown items.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Four-year construction management, engineering, or related degree.
  • This position will have five or more years of management, estimating, and procurement experience along with demonstrated skills, experience, and knowledge in the renewable market: engineering collaboration, construction techniques, and equipment, estimating, construction management, project financing, financial management, legal contracts, client relationship building, and overall understanding of the renewable marketplace. 
  • Conflict management skills required.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Extensive travel required.

$178,151.00 - $258,319.00 Individual Compensation to be determined based on the applicant's applicable experience and qualifications balanced against internal equity.
