Job Summary

Chicago State University (CSU) seeks a highly experienced and strategic Director of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to provide enterprise-wide leadership for the university's Ellucian Banner ERP ecosystem and its extensive portfolio of ancillary systems.

This role is responsible for the overall vision, governance, architecture, and operational excellence of ERP and integrated enterprise applications supporting Finance, Human Resources, Student Information Systems and Financial Aid. The Director will serve as a senior leader within IT, advising executive leadership and driving institutional transformation through technology, data, and process innovation.

Job Description

Enterprise ERP Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and execute a long-term strategy for the Ellucian Banner ERP ecosystem, including all core modules (Student, Finance, HR/Payroll, Financial Aid)
  • Establish enterprise-wide ERP governance, prioritization frameworks, and roadmap planning
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on ERP capabilities, risks, and opportunities

Comprehensive ERP Ecosystem Management

  • Oversee all components of ERP operations, including:
    • Core Banner modules and configurations
    • Database management and performance (e.g., Oracle environments)
    • Integrations, APIs, and middleware (e.g., Ethos, custom integrations)
    • Reporting environments and data architecture
    • Security roles, access controls, and compliance frameworks
  • Ensure seamless interoperability between Banner and ancillary applications (e.g., CRM, LMS, HR systems, finance tools, data warehouse)

Ancillary Systems & Integrations

  • Lead strategy and oversight for a broad portfolio of third-party and campus systems integrated with ERP
  • Ensure data consistency, system reliability, and optimized workflows across platforms
  • Drive modernization efforts, including cloud adoption and system rationalization

Operational Excellence & Service Delivery

  • Ensure high availability, performance, and continuous improvement of ERP services
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, SLAs, and user satisfaction metrics
  • Lead incident management, change management, and release processes

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Oversee strategic relationships with Ellucian and other vendors
  • Negotiate contracts, licensing, and service agreements
  • Manage external consultants and implementation partners

Team & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead, structure, and develop ERP and enterprise applications teams, including functional and technical staff
  • Build organizational capability in ERP administration, integrations, and data management
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and service excellence

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure ERP systems meet regulatory, audit, and security requirements

Maintain robust controls around sensitive institutional data

Minimum Qualifications

Must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field (Master's strongly preferred)
  • 10+ years of progressive experience managing ERP systems, with significant experience in higher education
  • Deep expertise in Ellucian Banner, including multiple functional modules (Student, Finance, HR, Financial Aid)
  • Demonstrated experience managing the full ERP ecosystem, including integrations, databases, reporting, and ancillary systems
  • Proven leadership experience at a senior level (Director) with responsibility for strategy, governance, and team leadership
  • Strong understanding of higher education business processes and regulatory environments


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Ellucian cloud offerings (Ethos, Experience)
  • Knowledge of Oracle database environments and ERP architecture
  • Experience leading large-scale ERP transformations or cloud migrations
  • Experience with data warehousing, analytics, and business intelligence tools
