Full Job Description
Role Summary

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the architecture and development of a consumer-facing, living application that is a key component of a broader initiative under development at LEGO Digital Play. Your job is to lead technical decision-making and build a highly collaborative engineering environment built on communication, trust, and clear ownership and accountability. Although you will manage a small team of engineers, this is a "hands-on" role-at least, initially-requiring you to write code alongside your reports.

You will work closely with game designers, product managers, UX professionals, and marketers to guide sound, "future proof" development of the application and to continually ship new features.

This is a Hybrid role requiring 2-3 days per month in the office as well as occasional travel.

This role requires a strong analytical thinker with a passion for data analysis and a firm grasp of the product development process. Strong communication, leadership, and management skills are also a must.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Technical Leadership: Lead an engineering organization responsible for developing the digital/app component of a physical/digital hybrid product line.
  • Architecture and Future Proofing: Design durable and evolvable architecture capable of supporting the broader product line for years to come while minimizing tech debt.
  • Communication and Documentation: Ensure decisions are communicated appropriately and the work on the application is appropriately documented and accessible to stakeholders.
  • Product Planning: Assist the Director of Product Management in prioritizing features and sprint tasks.
  • Cross-Group Collaboration: Partner with the game designers, product managers, and UX professionals to craft a tightly integrated experience.
  • Management: Manage a small team of software engineers.
  • Problem Solving & Decision-Making: dentify challenges early and drive resolution-either directly or through escalation with clear recommendations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience in game development and technical leadership with work on multiple shipped titles.
  • Familiarity with cross-platform development, specifically the iOS, Android and Web platforms.
  • Experience with Games-as-a-Service architecture.
  • Fluency with scrum and/or similar project management methodologies.
  • Demonstrated success building and managing a small team.
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity while building structure and clarity.
  • Excellent communication and synthesis skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with hybrid physical/digital systems

Compensation

The salary for this position has a range of USD 195,000 - USD 263,000 based on anticipated responsibilities, market benchmarks, and organizational constraints. LEGO Digital Play carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including but not limited to prior experience, skills, expertise, location, internal equity, and other considerations permitted by law. The comprehensive remuneration details, inclusive of benefits, will be communicated upon finalisation of the employment offer.
