The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading the overall engineering, maintenance, and facilities operations of the hotel. This role oversees all building systems, preventive maintenance programs, life-safety standards, capital planning, and engineering staff. The Director of Engineering ensures the property remains safe, efficient, well-maintained, and compliant with all regulatory and brand standards, contributing to guest satisfaction and operational excellence.JOB DESCRIPTION

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical or vocational training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, or related fields preferred.
  • Certifications such as EPA, CPO, HVAC license, or similar credentials strongly preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years of hotel or commercial facility maintenance experience.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience in engineering required.
  • Strong background in building systems, preventive maintenance, and regulatory compliance required.
  • Capital project experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Extensive knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and life-safety systems.
  • Strong leadership and team development skills with the ability to manage engineering staff.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations, building codes, and fire/life safety requirements.
  • Proficiency with CMMS/work order systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and on-call rotations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all engineering and maintenance operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable building performance.
  • Lead, train, coach, and evaluate engineering staff including supervisors and maintenance technicians.
  • Manage and execute the preventive maintenance (PM) program for all building systems and equipment.
  • Conduct regular property inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Coordinate and supervise major repairs, capital projects, and contracted maintenance work.
  • Maintain documentation of work orders, inspection logs, PM schedules, and compliance records.
  • Ensure all equipment and building systems comply with OSHA, fire/life safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Manage inventory, tools, equipment, and parts to support efficient operations.
  • Assist with the development and management of the engineering budget, including labor, supplies, and capital planning.
  • Respond promptly to guestroom and public area maintenance calls.
  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, and other departments to support guest satisfaction.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe engineering shop and mechanical spaces.
  • Serve as the point of contact during emergencies and lead response efforts for system failures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by property or regional leadership.
