Full Job Description
Ameresco has a new opportunity for a Director of Construction to join our Water Infrastructure Team. This role will support the final design, safe construction, commissioning, and successful implementation of multimillion-dollar water infrastructure and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) projects. The Director of Construction will provide hands-on leadership across project planning, subcontractor coordination, construction execution, budget management, safety, quality assurance, and customer delivery. NOTE: Preference will be given to candidates currently residing in the Central time zone.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale water infrastructure and AMI projects, including subcontract administration, construction activities, commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Provide hands-on leadership and direction to project teams, subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and construction resources to support safe, high-quality project delivery.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and customer expectations to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Plan, budget, forecast, track, and manage organizational and team resources to achieve business objectives.
  • Serve as the construction interface with engineering, operations, business development, and other internal teams, including the development of effective interdepartmental processes.
  • Assist in the development of scopes of work, subcontractor bid packages, contract documents, and related negotiations in coordination with legal, business, and risk management teams.
  • Evaluate technologies, equipment, vendors, and subcontractor approaches to recommend suitable solutions for each project application.
  • Monitor vendor and subcontractor coordination to support competitive cost, schedule performance, quality, and project budget requirements.
  • Review project submittals for quality assurance, technical accuracy, constructability, and customer-oriented solutions.
  • Fiscal management, responsibility, review and approval of project construction costs, budget activity, forecasts, monthly project reporting, and schedule updates.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that improve project execution efficiency and generate savings.
  • Ensure compliance with, and promote the advancement of, company, industry, trade, jurisdictional, and project-specific safety standards, practices, and codes.
  • Ability and willingness to travel as needed to support construction operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or another infrastructure-related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of construction, engineering, infrastructure, utility, or project management experience, preferably involving complex water infrastructure, AMI, municipal utility, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience managing construction execution, subcontractors, budgets, schedules, project reporting, quality assurance, and customer expectations on complex projects.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing and developing direct reports with varying levels of experience (preferred).
  • Experience managing multiple subcontractors and consultants on complex, multiphase projects (preferred).
  • Experience with municipal water infrastructure, water meter replacement, AMI/AMR deployment, utility construction, or related field implementation projects (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while fostering positive internal and external business relationships (preferred).
  • Strong verbal, written, technical communication, computer, and presentation skills (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, and cloud-based construction management software such as Procore or equivalent (preferred).
  • Construction management certifications, project management certifications, or applicable state licensing (preferred).
  • Strong working knowledge of construction safety requirements, subcontractor management, commissioning, project controls, and risk management.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing, issued by the resident state.


The anticipated base salary range for this role is $161,000 - $233,000 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.

Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
