Director of Communications and Branding

Snapshot:

The Director of Communications and Branding leads Elliot's enterprise communications and brand strategy, helping employees connect company purpose and priorities to their work while enabling leaders to translate business objectives into aligned action. This role serves as a trusted communications advisor to executive leadership, driving enterprise-wide messaging, change communication, storytelling, employee engagement, and brand stewardship across a multi-location organization.

The Director will establish communication systems, governance, and measurement practices that strengthen understanding, engagement, and business performance while protecting and enhancing Elliot's reputation. This position oversees internal and external communications, executive messaging, media relations, crisis communication, and branding initiatives to ensure a consistent and trusted company voice across all audiences.

A Day in the Life:

  • Lead Elliot's enterprise communications and branding strategy aligned with company priorities, growth objectives, operational performance, safety, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as a strategic communications counselor to the President, executive team, and business leaders on messaging, organizational narrative, and communication planning.
  • Develop and execute communication strategies for major organizational initiatives, including acquisitions, system implementations, leadership transitions, and business transformations.
  • Create and maintain communication frameworks, leader toolkits, messaging cascades, and feedback channels that support organizational alignment.
  • Oversee employee, leadership, and executive communications across multiple platforms and audiences.
  • Build and manage editorial strategies that highlight employee achievements, company culture, customer successes, safety accomplishments, and community impact.
  • Partner with regional and service group leaders to identify communication needs and strengthen connections across the organization.
  • Champion Elliot's brand narrative, messaging architecture, voice, and visual identity across internal and external communications.
  • Lead media relations, public relations activities, reputation management, and crisis communication planning and execution.
  • Establish communication governance, channel strategies, editorial standards, workflows, and communication technology best practices.
  • Monitor communication effectiveness using audience feedback, engagement metrics, and performance measures.
  • Manage agency partners, communication vendors, and department resources.
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Communications and Branding team.
  • Support special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications & Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, internal communications, executive communications, public relations, branding, or related disciplines.
  • Proven experience developing and executing enterprise communication strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise senior executives and communicate complex business topics to diverse audiences.
  • Experience leading communications through organizational change, business transformation, and high-visibility initiatives.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams, cross-functional projects, and stakeholder relationships.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking, project management, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience supporting multi-location organizations is preferred.
  • Experience in construction, utilities, infrastructure, industrial services, or other operationally focused environments is preferred.
  • Experience with crisis communications, media relations, employer branding, and social media strategy is preferred.
  • Prosci Change Management, APR, or related professional certifications are beneficial.
  • Experience leveraging communication technologies, analytics, and generative AI tools is beneficial.
