Director of Accounting - Houston, TXSchedule: Monday - Friday 8am -5pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or other relevant accounting standards.
- Provide financial reports to stakeholders, including the CFO, officers, donors, and regulatory authorities.
- Provide oversight of the accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, and accounts receivable.
- Develop and oversee the annual budgeting process in collaboration with various locations and departments.
- Provide financial forecasts and projections to assist in strategic planning.
- Establish and maintain effective internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulations.
- Conduct regular internal audits to identify and address potential issues.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and funding requirements. Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and ensure the organization's accounting practices remain current and compliant.
- Manage financial aspects of grants and contracts, including budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
- Work closely with facility directors and program managers to track and report on the use of grant funds.
- Oversee cash flow and liquidity management to ensure the organization's financial stability.
- Monitor and manage banking relationships, including reconciliations.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making by senior management.
- Analyze financial trends and make recommendations for improvement.
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to guide the organization's financial practices.
- Train staff on financial policies and ensure adherence to them.
- Work with CFO to implement and maintain accounting software and systems to streamline financial processes.
- Stay current on technological advancements in financial management.
- Make recommendations to CFO for improvement and/or change to existing standards and procedures.
- Act as an internal resource to enhance awareness and understanding of best practices, risk management and use of controls by management and staff.
- Maintain strict confidentiality on all client and foundation matters.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and consistent with the exempt functions as defined in this job description.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to have excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work with great attention to detail and accurately record numerical data.
- Experienced in working with diverse population.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software required, including MS Excel and Outlook calendar.
- Travel up to 15% required.

Education: - Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree required.
Experience: - Minimum of five years of accounting experience required.
- Minimum of two years of grant management and contract compliance experience required.
- Experience in working with governmental licensing agencies preferred.
- Experience with health care or education is preferred.
Physical Requirements: - Sitting in normal seated position for extended periods of time.

- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole
hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
