Description
We are looking for you to join our team as a Director, Manufacturing Operations 1 based out of Sunnyvale, CA.
The Manufacturing Operations Director is responsible for establishing and leading Sunnyvale Manufacturing operations. This organization supports the Marine Systems business unit; a key element of the Maritime/Land Systems & Sensors (MLSS) division within the Mission Systems sector. Marine Systems designs, builds, tests, and supports Propulsion & Power Generation equipment and Missile Launching and Handling equipment for the US Navy. As a key leader, partner and essential member of the Marine Systems leadership team, the Manufacturing Operations Director will lead a high performing Manufacturing teams responsible for Assembly Operations.

Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of solving complex problems through systematic and objective evaluation of information, effective communication, and championing and leading change with a diverse set of internal and external customers and suppliers. The Manufacturing Operations Director reports to the Senior Director of Manufacturing.
Major Responsibilities:
• Safety. Number one priority.
• Operational excellence meeting our customer commitments and protecting our people and products. This includes execution excellence and overall responsibility for Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Culture within Marine Systems.
• An effective organization structure and team, working together to improve our processes and discipline to our processes
• A culture of empowered leaders and engaged employees focused on problem solving in an enjoyable work environment (fun, competitive, proud, visual, celebrating successes)
• Develops, communicates and implements vision, strategy, goals and metrics that drive business objectives and priorities for tangible improvements
• Excellent relationships and accountability to internal customers (programs / segments) communicating status, return to green plans and achievement to objectives
• Integral part of Marine Systems leadership team providing candid, respectful feedback and aligning to the goals and values of NGC.
• Responsible for continuous improvement, performance to standard work and least waste way and never-ending lean mentality throughout the organization
• Utilizes effective talent management strategies to attract, retain, develop and engage the right people for the organization
• Management of both direct and indirect costs through weekly metrics, staffing, initiatives and accountability
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees throughout the Manufacturing organization to foster a culture of trust and open communication.
• Responsible for forming and maintaining collaborative working relationships with customers, program management, and other support organizations within Propulsion Systems, Flight Systems Group and Northrop Grumman.
• The Director is responsible for manufacturing of complex Propulsion and Power Generation Systems within cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
• Staffing and employee development in a challenging environment for unique skill sets in both touch labor (non-exempt) and professional (exempt individual contributor and management) positions. Collaboration & partnership with talent acquisition to ensure current and future hiring requirements are met will be critical for success.
• Financial management including knowledge and understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM), rates and budgets and associated overhead budgets to support manufacturing activities is a key responsibility as well as the planning and execution of strategic funds for capital equipment and machinery, as well as manufacturing technical activities.
• Works closely with the functional organizations (including Design Engineering, Quality and Mission Excellence, Global Supply Chain, Business Management, Human Resources) across the organization and site as necessary to achieve desired results and outcomes.
• The Director will be responsible for recruiting & mentoring future leaders, directing training & skill development initiatives and promoting Engagement & Inclusion activities.
• Drives operational efficiency through the elements of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Morale (Engagement) (SQDCM).
Basic Qualifications for the Manufacturing Operations Director 1:
• Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing or related environment.
• Minimum of 5 years strong senior management experience.
• Leadership experience in manufacturing/production, operations, program management, testing, or related area
• Experience with industry and management methodologies focused on continuous improvement in manufacturing, such as ISO 9000, Total Quality Management or Six Sigma
• US Citizenship is required.
• Ability to obtain an active Secret security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience leading a large and diverse group, establishing clear expectations and inspiring commitment, building teams, value diversity and put people first.
• Experience improving organizational health through being aligned as an organization, executing effectively, genuinely and meaningfully connecting with employees and managing employees
• Experience furthering continuous yet controlled improvements in organizations and processes and strengthening of workforce skills through application of lean thinking principles and tools.
• Experience formulating and executing complex project plans and initiatives.
• Active US Top Secret clearance is preferred
• Experience working with a union represented population
• Experience with financial management including project & process control and budgets, to include familiarity with DCAA and FAR regulations and EVMS methodologies
• Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) tools such as SAP and Materials Requirement Planning (MRP).
• Experience working in a union environment.

Primary Level Salary Range: $185,400.00 - $278,200.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
