Full Job Description
Scopely is seeking a Director, Legal Operations to join our Legal team. This role will lead the Legal Operations function and establish the strategy, operating model, technology roadmap, governance framework, and performance infrastructure for a global, high-growth Legal department. This role will be a hybrid position in our Culver City, CA hub.

The Director will directly manage the Sr. Manager, Legal Operations, who owns day-to-day Ironclad CLM operations, knowledge management infrastructure, and AI-enabled legal technology implementation. The Director will provide strategic direction, prioritize the team's roadmap, manage resources and vendors, and remain accountable for the quality, adoption, and business impact of these programs.

This is a senior people-leadership and functional-building role for someone who can translate Legal leadership's priorities into scalable systems, processes, and measurable outcomes. The right candidate will combine strategic judgment, operational discipline, technical fluency, executive presence, and the ability to build trusted partnerships across Legal and the broader business . as a strategic business partner, not just a support or systems-administration function. They will be comfortable operating in ambiguity, creating structure where none exists, and leading through influence in a fast-paced global gaming company.

What You Will Do

Legal Operations Strategy & Functional Leadership
  • Partner directly with Legal leadership to define and execute a multi-year Legal Operations strategy aligned with Scopely's business priorities and growth
  • Translate Legal department priorities into an integrated roadmap covering technology, process improvement, data, knowledge management, automation, training, and organizational capability
  • Establish annual and quarterly priorities, success metrics, resource plans, and sequencing recommendations for the Legal Operations team
  • Advise Legal leadership on tradeoffs among business impact, risk, cost, speed, and available team capacity
  • Develop the Legal Operations budget, oversee spend, build business cases for new investments, and manage vendor and renewal strategy
  • Identify opportunities to standardize, automate, and simplify Legal processes across Commercial, Corporate, Employment, Product Compliance, and other Legal functions
  • Directly manage, coach, and develop the Sr. Manager, Legal Operations, who owns Ironclad CLM operations, knowledge management infrastructure, and AI implementation

Legal Technology Strategy & Governance
  • Serve as the executive owner of Scopely's Legal technology portfolio and establish a coherent architecture and investment strategy across CLM, knowledge management, matter management, e-billing, contract analytics, automation, and related tools
  • Own the Legal technology roadmap, including technology selection, implementation sequencing, integration priorities, system rationalization, and long-term scalability
  • Oversee Ironclad CLM as a critical Legal and business system, ensuring that the Sr. Manager has the direction, resources, governance framework, and stakeholder alignment necessary to operate the platform effectively
  • Establish governance standards for workflow design, metadata, templates, permissions, approval logic, integrations, repository integrity, data retention, change management, and system access
  • Review and approve significant platform changes, balancing user experience, business needs, control requirements, data integrity, and long-term maintainability
  • Partner with IT, Information Security, Privacy, Procurement, Finance, and external vendors on architecture, security, integrations, implementation, support, and risk management
  • Lead or oversee system migrations, data consolidation efforts, post-acquisition integrations, and other technology transformation initiatives

Knowledge Management, Automation & AI
  • Establish the strategic vision and operating model for Legal knowledge management, including content architecture, taxonomy, ownership, curation, searchability, version control, and access governance
  • Ensure that Legal's institutional knowledge is captured, structured, maintained, and made accessible in ways that support self-service, consistency, and future AI applications
  • Develop a portfolio of practical AI and automation use cases for Legal in partnership with Legal leadership, IT, and relevant business stakeholders
  • Oversee the implementation and responsible adoption of AI-enabled tools, including chatbots, knowledge-based assistants, workflow automation, contract analytics, and other emerging technologies
  • Direct the Sr. Manager's hands-on execution of knowledge management and AI initiatives, including platform configuration, testing, content population, user feedback, optimization, and rollout
  • Define success metrics for AI and automation initiatives, including adoption, response quality, time saved, reduction in repetitive inquiries, and measurable improvements to the Legal user experience
  • Stay current on legal technology and AI developments and make informed recommendations regarding opportunities, risks, and investment priorities

Process Improvement & Business Partnership
  • Serve as a strategic partner to Legal leadership, Procurement, Finance, Information Security, IT, People, Product, and other stakeholders to improve the end-to-end process of contracting and Legal support experience
  • Establish scalable intake, triage, and routing models that direct work to the appropriate Legal or business resource and minimize unnecessary attorney involvement
  • Use qualitative and quantitative data to identify recurring friction, diagnose root causes, and implement structural solutions rather than one-off fixes
  • Support Legal leadership to define and adopt practical playbooks, self-service resources, approval frameworks, and standardized workflows

Data, Analytics & Performance Management
  • Act as a strategic partner with Commercial Legal to design and monitor metrics such as contracting cycle times, intake volumes, routing accuracy, self-service rates, workflow adoption, support trends, system reliability, automation impact, and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Establish a Legal Operations performance framework that measures the efficiency, quality, adoption, capacity, and business impact of Legal services and systems
  • Create executive-ready dashboards and reporting for Legal leadership, highlighting trends, risks, opportunities, and recommended actions
  • Use data to support capacity planning, prioritization, investment decisions, vendor management, and continuous improvement

What We're Looking For
  • 7-10+ years of experience in Legal Operations, legal technology, business operations, process transformation, consulting, or a related field, with clear progression in scope, responsibility, and organizational leadership
  • Demonstrated experience leading or building a Legal Operations function within a high-growth technology, gaming, entertainment, digital media, or similarly complex global company
  • At least 3-5 years of experience managing, coaching, and developing professionals, including experience setting priorities, delegating ownership, giving feedback, and building team capability
  • Experience establishing a Legal Operations strategy, operating model, roadmap, budget, governance framework, and performance-measurement program
  • Significant experience with enterprise CLM programs, including Ironclad or a comparable platform. Direct Ironclad administration experience is strongly preferred; the candidate must have sufficient technical depth to evaluate platform architecture, workflow design, data governance, integrations, controls, and adoption
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, negotiate with vendors, assess technology investments, and measure realized value
  • Experience overseeing legal technology portfolios beyond CLM, such as knowledge management, e-billing, matter management, contract analytics, automation, compliance, or AI-enabled tools
  • Proven ability to build or mature a knowledge management function and translate institutional knowledge into structured, searchable, reusable content
  • Experience evaluating, implementing, governing, or scaling AI and automation tools in a professional-services, legal, technology, or corporate environment
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills, with the ability to identify patterns, diagnose root causes, and design solutions that scale
  • Excellent executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior Legal and business leaders and translate technical or operational issues into clear business decisions
  • Strong project and change-management skills, including the ability to lead complex initiatives across multiple teams with competing priorities
  • A highly collaborative, practical, and service-oriented leadership style, with the judgment to balance user experience, business enablement, risk management, and operational discipline
  • Comfort operating with significant autonomy in a fast-paced, evolving environment and the ability to create clarity, structure, and momentum amid ambiguity

Nice to Have
  • Experience leading Legal Operations in a gaming, interactive entertainment, digital media, or consumer technology company
  • Direct experience with Ironclad, contract analytics, legal knowledge platforms, or similar tools
  • Experience with post-acquisition Legal technology integrations, data migrations, or operating-model integration
  • Experience managing outside counsel, legal vendors, e-billing, matter management, or Legal department spend
  • Experience developing responsible-use standards or governance frameworks for AI in a Legal or regulated environment
  • Experience partnering with geographically distributed teams and supporting global Legal operations
  • A sense of humor and a passion for mobile gaming

What Success Looks Like

Within the first year, the Director will have established a clear Legal Operations strategy and roadmap; created a well-functioning operating model for the Legal Operations team; enabled the Sr. Manager to own day-to-day CLM, knowledge management, and AI execution; implemented a consistent performance-reporting framework; strengthened governance across Legal technology; and delivered measurable improvements in self-service, workflow adoption, contracting efficiency, and Legal team capacity.
