The Director, International Provisions, leads the assessment of provisions and allowances for the international lending portfolios, ensuring adequate allowance coverage and compliance with IFRS 9 requirements. The role is accountable for monthly and quarterly provisioning activities, executive reporting, portfolio analysis, forecasting, and the effective management of key controls supporting the Bank's credit risk and financial reporting processes.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:
  • Lead the monthly and quarterly determination of Provision for Credit Losses (PCL) for international portfolios, including analysis of allowance adequacy and identification of any required management overlay adjustments.
  • Prepare senior executive presentations and commentary for the Senior Credit Committee and other executive, regulatory, and investor reporting forums, with clear analysis of provisioning trends, key drivers, and variances against prior quarters, plan, and forecast.
  • Lead forecasting and annual provision planning activities to establish targets for key risk metrics, including PCL and net write-offs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with partners across Modelling, Risk Product teams, Collections, Finance, Audit, and other key stakeholder groups to support a comprehensive view of portfolio performance and emerging credit risk trends.
  • Ensure provisioning processes comply with internal, external, regulatory, and SOX audit requirements, including timely support for audit reviews, testing, and remediation activities.
  • Support due diligence and risk assessment activities for new acquisitions, portfolio purchases, mergers, and related initiatives, ensuring portfolios under consideration align with Scotiabank's risk appetite and can be effectively integrated into Bank processes.
  • Assess alternative scenarios and develop sensitivity analyses to evaluate potential PCL impacts, including the effects of credit quality, growth, portfolio mix, macroeconomic conditions, and product-specific performance.
  • Build a high-performance team by providing leadership, coaching, performance management, and development support to direct reports.


Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
  • Strong knowledge of credit risk management across the credit life cycle, including provisioning, allowance assessment, forecasting, portfolio monitoring, and credit performance analysis.
  • Strong quantitative, mathematical, or statistical skills, with the ability to interpret credit risk models, portfolio trends, and provisioning methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare executive-ready materials and explain complex risk and financial information to senior stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity, accuracy, attention to detail, and sound judgment, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality outputs within tight timelines.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in retail or commercial banking, credit risk, provisioning, finance, or a related risk management function.
  • Minimum of 3 years of people management experience, with demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and motivate team members.
  • Strong prioritization, planning, analytical, presentation, project management, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
  • Proficiency in Spanish is considered an asset.
  • University degree in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, statistics, economics, business, finance, or a related field.
  • Professional designation, such as CFA, FRM, CPA, or an equivalent financial designation, is preferred.
