Senior Manager, Risk Management

About the Role

As the Sr. Manager, Risk Management, you will leverage technical expertise to lead critical components of KBR’s global insurance and risk management programs, helping to reduce financial volatility and protect enterprise value. This role is responsible for advancing and operationalizing the company’s risk management framework, driving best practices, efficiency, and automation across business units. You will oversee insurance procurement, claims management, captive insurance operations, and insured claims handling while partnering with internal stakeholders and external parties—including senior leadership, business divisions, brokers, underwriters, clients, regulatory agencies, and legal counsel. Highly visible and impactful, this role also focuses on leading and developing cross-functional teams, managing multi-region initiatives, and supporting the Treasurer on strategic priorities, including M&A activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Insurance Program Leadership: Direct corporate insurance program renewals, modifications, and strategy, presenting recommendations and insights to senior management.
  • External Partnerships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with insurers, brokers, and claims representatives to optimize program structure and outcomes.
  • Captive Insurance Management: Oversee the captive insurance company, including program administration, regulatory compliance, claims activity, and leadership reporting.
  • Claims Oversight: Manage insured claims processes, coordinating with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and internal legal teams on litigated matters, including Defense Base Act (DBA) claims.
  • Contract Risk Review: Evaluate and advise on risk-related contractual provisions, including insurance, indemnification, and risk of loss terms.
  • Specialty Insurance Placement: Manage the placement of project-specific and country-specific insurance programs to support global operations.
  • Regulatory & Audit Support: Ensure timely and accurate responses to audit requests, including those from government agencies.
  • Policy & Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement of risk management policies and procedures, aligning with industry best practices and operational excellence.
  • Program Enhancement: Recommend solutions, programs, or services to strengthen and evolve the company’s risk management framework.
  • Market Intelligence: Stay informed on insurance market conditions and claims trends to proactively adjust risk management strategies.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, coach, and develop both direct and cross-functional team members, fostering engagement and alignment with corporate financial objectives.
  • Planning & Prioritization: Oversee departmental planning, including budgeting for insurance programs and personnel, while effectively prioritizing initiatives and resources.
  • Strategic Support: Support the Treasurer and broader leadership team on strategic initiatives, including risk-related aspects of M&A activities.

Basic Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Insurance/Risk Management, or a related field required.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in risk management and/or insurance within a multinational organization.
  • Advanced degree or professional certifications (MBA, JD, ARM, CRIS, CPCU, CRM) preferred.
  • Experience supporting U.S. Government contracting environments preferred.

Risk Management & Leadership Expertise:

  • Deep subject matter expertise in corporate insurance programs, claims management, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Proven ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and influence decision-making at senior levels.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly present trends, risks, and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and build effective partnerships.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience leading, coaching, and developing teams to drive performance and engagement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), as well as collaboration and document tools (Teams, SharePoint, Adobe/PDF) and enterprise systems such as Costpoint.
