Role Title: Director, Head of Equity Ownership & Governance

We're seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Head of Equity Ownership & Governance to join our People, Engagement & Impact Organization. This role is located in New York City.

Role Summary

This role leads the design, governance, and evolution of BNY's global equity programs, ensuring they operate as a strategic, scalable, and technology-enabled component of total rewards. The position transforms equity from a manually administered process into a high-integrity, low-risk, and data-informed ownership system, while shaping how equity supports talent strategy in a rapidly evolving, AI-enabled workforce.

Key Responsibilities

Equity System Architecture & Transformation
  1. Redesign and modernize end-to-end equity processes to eliminate manual work, reduce operational risk, and enable scale
  2. Architect integrated workflows across equity platforms, payroll, HR systems, and vendor ecosystems
  3. Lead automation and system optimization efforts in partnership with engineering and external providers


Global Governance & Risk Integrity
  1. Establish and maintain robust governance frameworks ensuring accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness across all equity programs
  2. Anticipate and mitigate operational, regulatory, and financial risks tied to global equity delivery
  3. Own the integrity of vesting, taxation alignment, and share delivery across jurisdictions


Equity Strategy & Program Evolution
  1. Partner with Total Rewards and executive stakeholders to evolve equity programs in line with business strategy, market trends, and workforce shifts
  2. Monitor industry practices, regulatory changes, and emerging models of ownership (including implications of AI-driven workforce changes)
  3. Translate strategy into scalable, executable program design


Data, Insights & Decision Enablement
  1. Leverage equity data to provide insights on utilization, retention impact, and cost effectiveness
  2. Define metrics that connect equity programs to business and talent outcomes
  3. Partner with analytics teams to enhance visibility and decision-making


Stakeholder & Ecosystem Leadership
  1. Serve as the central point of expertise connecting payroll, finance, legal, engineering, and external vendors
  2. Influence vendor strategy, system roadmap decisions, and integration priorities
  3. Drive alignment across functions to ensure seamless execution and continuous improvement

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $155,000 to $240,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.

This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
