The Role

Manages and contributes to the overall success of Foreign Exchange (FX) & Money Market (MM) Operations, ensuring business goals, plans and initiatives are executed in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted and services delivered are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The Director leads the day-to-day operating model across business support lines while advancing strategic initiatives, business growth and technology-enabled change. This includes oversight of core operational processing, client service, risk and controls, process standardization and the proactive delivery of operational support for strategic business growth initiatives and system implementations and enhancements to support evolving business needs, global consistency and scalable growth.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Oversees and maintains the operational activities and processes originating from FX and MM, conducted by GBM and Group Treasury. Activity supported is conducted by various Front Office Sales & Trading desks located in multiple geographic locations and jurisdictions. Examples of activities include but are not limited to trade confirmation, cash-flow settlement, cash control.
  • Supports each business line operations team through strategic initiatives, business growth and related system implementations and enhancements, to strengthen scalability, client service delivery and operational effectiveness.
  • Defines straight-through processing (STP) strategy and leads delivery of STP targets across each business support line, with clear performance oversight, process optimization and accountability.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for risk and controls within each business line, ensuring strong control execution, timely remediation and the successful completion and closure of all audit-related activities.
  • Drives standardization globally across both operating pillars through SOPs, SLAs and process review and design standards, creating a more consistent, efficient and scalable operating model.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates a positive environment in which the team is engaged and pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with ScotiaBond values, the Code of Conduct and the Global Sales and Trading Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops engages and motivates a diverse team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors, communicating vison/values/business strategy, and managing succession and development planning for the team.

  • University degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in capital markets operations, with deep expertise in FX and MM operations, confirmation and settlement processes, controls, and managing operational risk
  • Proven leadership experience managing global or multi-region operations teams, including oversight of BAU delivery, service quality, risk management and business continuity
  • Demonstrated experience leading strategic initiatives, operating model optimization and technology-enabled transformation, including process redesign, system implementation and workflow automation
  • Demonstrated success improving straight-through processing, standardization and operating efficiency, supported by strong process governance and control discipline
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience partnering across Operations, Technology, Front Office, Finance, Risk and Control functions
  • Strong people leadership capabilities, with experience building high-performing teams, leading leaders and managing change in complex environments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs into operational and technology solutions
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and workflow / operations tools; experience with data analysis and management reporting is an asset
  • Spanish language fluency is considered an asset
