About the Role:Crusoe is looking for a Director of Construction & Data Center Operations Finance to own the financial oversight of capital projects across their entire lifecycle - from groundbreaking through energization, turnover, and ongoing data center operations. This role sits at the intersection of Construction/Development, Project Finance, Data Center Operations, and Accounting - responsible for budgeting, cost control, draw management, financeability , and financial reporting during the build phase, and then for operating cost management, performance reporting, and asset-level financial oversight once a facility goes live.
This is a highly cross-functional, execution-focused role suited to someone who can bring financial rigor across both a construction environment that moves at startup speed and a live operating environment with contractual uptime, cost, and performance commitments to customers and lenders.
What You'll Be Working On:Budgeting & Cost Control- Own construction budgets for assigned campuses/projects, partnering with Development, Construction Management, and Procurement to build and maintain accurate total installed cost (TIC) estimates from executive approval to live.
- Track budget-to-actual performance across hard costs, soft costs, and contingency; identify and escalate variances, cost overruns, and change orders early.
Draw Management & Financing Compliance- Ensure construction spend and project milestones remain in compliance with loan agreements, equity funding agreements, and any project-level financing covenants.
- Partner with Treasury/Capital Markets teams to forecast funding needs and ensure capital is available to match construction spend curves across multiple concurrent projects.
Commercial & Contract Support- Support financial review of GC contracts, EPC agreements, and major vendor/equipment purchase agreements (e.g., long-lead electrical and mechanical equipment), advising on payment terms, milestone structures, and risk allocation.
- Partner with Legal and Procurement on the financial terms of construction and equipment contracts, including liquidated damages provisions and payment/performance bonding.
Project Lifecycle Management- Maintain a portfolio-level view of construction projects - cost, schedule, and funding status - for leadership, board, and lender/investor reporting.
- Own the financial handoff from construction to operations at project completion, including final cost reconciliation, capitalization, and asset turnover to the operating asset management/accounting teams.
- Build tools and processes to scale construction finance oversight as Crusoe's number of concurrent active builds grows.
Data Center Operations Finance- Own financial oversight of data centers once energized and turned over to operations, including operating budgets, actual-vs-budget performance, and cost-per-MW/cost-per-rack benchmarking across the operating fleet.
- Partner with Data Center Operations, Facilities, and Power teams to track operating costs (utilities, maintenance, staffing, service contracts) and identify efficiency opportunities across sites.
- Support financial reporting on operational performance metrics tied to customer contracts and lender/investor commitments (e.g., uptime/SLA compliance, PUE, capacity utilization) where these have cost or revenue implications.
- Manage the transition of assets from construction accounting (capitalized costs, cost segregation) to operating asset financials, ensuring clean handoff to FP&A and Accounting for depreciation, opex classification, and ongoing reporting.
- Monitor capex needs for operating sites (maintenance capex, capacity expansions, equipment refresh/replacement) and incorporate into portfolio-level capital planning.
- Provide input into make-vs-buy and staffing/outsourcing decisions for facilities and operations functions from a cost and financing perspective.
Cross-Functional Partnership- Serve as the finance point of contact for Construction Management, Development, Data Center Operations, Project Finance, and Accounting on all cost, funding, and reporting matters spanning build and operate phases.
- Provide construction and operating cost/funding analysis to support board materials, lender reporting packages, and investor due diligence.
What You'll Bring to the Team:- 8+ years of experience spanning construction finance, project controls, capital projects accounting, or project finance, ideally within data centers, energy, industrial, or large-scale infrastructure; direct exposure to data center or facilities operations finance strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing construction budgets, cost reporting, and draw processes on large capital projects (typically $100M+ in scale).
- Familiarity with construction loan agreements, draw/funding mechanics, and lender/independent engineer requirements.
- Working knowledge of GC/EPC contract structures, change order management, and construction risk allocation (bonding, retainage, liquidated damages).
- Experience managing operating budgets and cost performance for live facilities, ideally data centers or other mission-critical operating assets.
- Understanding of how construction-phase decisions (design, equipment selection, contract terms) affect long-term operating costs and asset performance.
- Strong financial modeling and analytical skills; comfort building and maintaining detailed cost-tracking tools across both build and operate phases.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects/sites in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills; able to work directly with construction managers, GCs, data center operations teams, lenders, and internal finance/accounting teams.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, construction management, engineering, or related field required; MBA or CPA a plus.
Bonus Points- Experience in data center or hyperscale infrastructure construction and operations specifically.
- Familiarity with capital project accounting (capitalization of interest, cost segregation) and percentage-of-completion accounting.
- Exposure to construction lending, independent engineer processes, or project finance due diligence.
- Familiarity with data center operating metrics (PUE, uptime/SLA, cost-per-MW) and how they tie to customer contracts and financing covenants.
- Experience standing up construction and/or operations finance functions in a high-growth company.
