Overview

The Microsoft Security Marketing team is seeking a strategic, results-oriented Director, Executive Communications - Security to support the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Security. This role leads executive communications strategy across internal and external channels and plays a key role in shaping industry-relevant, technically credible content that advances Microsoft Security's voice and leadership position in the market.

In this role, you will craft and oversee executive messaging, storytelling, and content that brings clarity to complex security topics, resonates with senior technical audiences, and supports key business priorities. In this role, you will collaborate closely with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to deliver effective communications aligned to Microsoft's mission, values, and culture.

Note: This role supports a senior executive and will align with the rhythm of executive communications, key security moments, and major industry events. As with many executive-facing roles, workloads may vary based on business priorities, event cycles, and leadership needs.

Responsibilities

Communication Strategy & Planning
  • Lead executive communication planning and strategy for the CVP of Microsoft Security, aligned to business priorities and industry moments.
  • Develop executive communications materials including decks, blogs, talking points, briefing documents, and scripts for internal and external communications.
  • Ensure message consistency across channels and establish clear linkages between strategy, messaging, and outcomes.
  • Manage the executive communications editorial calendar and prioritize incoming requests.
  • Adapt narratives based on audience feedback and engagement signals.

Storytelling & Messaging
  • Develop industry-relevant, technically accurate points of view and translate them into executive storytelling.
  • Leverage storytelling frameworks and multimedia approaches (including demos) to communicate complex security topics effectively.
  • Collaborate across teams to integrate customers, partners, and solution stories into executive narratives.

Executive Communications Platform Management
  • Build and maintain an executive communications platform that defines executive voice, tone, perspective, and narrative priorities.
  • Identify opportunities to elevate executive thought leadership and support Microsoft Security's reputation.
  • Function as a trusted advisor on reputational considerations, message risk, and strategic positioning.

Internal Communications
  • Lead strategy and execution for executive internal communications including All Hands, Teams posts, organizational emails, and leadership messaging.
  • Partner across internal teams to ensure employee communications support understanding of Microsoft's mission and security strategy.

External Communications & Social Presence
  • Lead strategy development for executive external communications, including blogs and social messaging, in partnership with Public Relations.
  • Shape a consistent executive presence that supports engagement and brand differentiation across channels.

Speaking Engagements & Events
  • Own executive speaking strategy, prioritization, and lifecycle management for internal events, external conferences, customer engagements, and hosted forums.
  • Develop keynote narratives, presentations, and briefing materials for key security moments and industry events.

Measurement & Impact
  • Monitor, analyze, and report on executive communications and thought leadership efforts.
  • Use insights to refine messaging and executive engagement strategy.


Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 6+ years communications, marketing operations, field operations, program management, project management, or related experience OR equivalent experience

  • Master's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years communications, marketing operations, field operations, program management, project management, or related experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 12+ years communications, marketing operations, field operations, program management, project management, or related experience OR equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop security industry-relevant, technically accurate points of view and translate them into executive-level communications.
  • Expertise in communication tools and channels, including Microsoft 365 applications, AI tools, and publishing and social platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering directly with senior executives and influencing with judgment and credibility.
  • Experience engaging with and developing content for business leaders (such as boards of directors) and highly technical audiences (such as CISOs and security practitioners).


Communications IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $251,900 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $272,300 per year.
