JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Director, Strategic Partnerships & Network Development is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and ongoing management of strategic partnerships that support Duke Health's growth objectives. This role serves as the primary relationship manager for physician practices, joint ventures, professional services agreements (PSAs), ambulatory surgery center (ASC) partnerships, and other strategic affiliations. The Director leads partnership development from Letter of Intent (LOI) through implementation and long-term performance management, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders across clinical, operational, financial, legal, and executive leadership teams.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Partnership Development and Transaction Execution
• Serve as the primary liaison between Duke Health and prospective or existing partner organizations following execution of a Letter of Intent (LOI).
• Lead development, negotiation, and execution of definitive agreements consistent with approved transaction structures.
• Coordinate due diligence activities across legal, compliance, finance, operations, and clinical stakeholders.
• Refine partnership terms and facilitate resolution of business, operational, and financial issues.
• Translate strategic opportunities into executable partnership structures and contractual agreements.

Onboarding and Implementation of Strategic Partnerships
• Lead implementation and transition activities for new PSAs, joint ventures, and other affiliation arrangements.
• Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful partnership launch.
• Provide on-site and operational support during onboarding and implementation phases.
• Facilitate integration of partner organizations into DHIP operational, financial, and governance structures.
• Establish implementation timelines, milestones, and accountability mechanisms.

Performance Management and Relationship Oversight
• Develop and implement performance management frameworks for non-employed physician partnerships.
• Monitor operational, financial, and strategic performance against business plan objectives.
• Lead regular performance reviews with physician leaders, executives, and practice administrators.
• Identify opportunities for partnership optimization, growth, and issue resolution.
• Maintain long-term executive and physician relationships to ensure partnership success.

Joint Venture Development
• Lead business case development for new joint venture opportunities.
• Coordinate capital planning, financial modeling, and stakeholder alignment activities.
• Develop governance, ownership, and operating structures for joint ventures.
• Lead negotiation and execution of joint venture agreements.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams throughout development and implementation.

Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) Partnership Management
• Serve as relationship lead for ambulatory surgery center partnerships.
• Manage physician and partner engagement strategies.
• Develop and evaluate ownership, equity, and governance structures.
• Support strategic growth and expansion of ASC partnerships.

Strategic Investment and Fund Development
• Coordinate partnership activities related to strategic investment initiatives.
• Collaborate with real estate, finance, and market development teams on investment opportunities.
• Support development of future investment vehicles and related infrastructure.
• Evaluate opportunities that align with organizational growth objectives.

New Partnership Opportunity Development
• Lead outreach, evaluation, and cultivation of prospective strategic partners.
• Coordinate Request for Proposal (RFP) processes and evaluations.
• Conduct market assessments and strategic opportunity analyses.
• Develop partnership recommendations and business cases for executive leadership.
• Advance selected opportunities through transaction development and implementation.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Finance, Law, or a related field is required.
  • Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or JD) is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in healthcare strategy, business development, physician relations, joint ventures, transaction management, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience leading partnership, affiliation, or transaction development from opportunity identification through execution and implementation.
  • A comparable combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare partnership and physician alignment structures, including PSAs, joint ventures, ASCs, and management services arrangements.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory and compliance considerations governing healthcare transactions, including Stark Law and Anti-Kickback statute implications.
  • Strong financial acumen, including business case development, financial modeling, and capital planning.
  • Proven negotiation, contracting, and transaction execution skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives with competing priorities.
  • Executive-level communication, influence, and relationship management skills, particularly with physicians and senior leaders.
  • Strategic thinking, analytical rigor, and sound business judgment.


JOB HOURS

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
