What is the opportunity?

In this role, you will manage the Debit eCommerce portfolio and lead key payment-related strategic initiatives. You will provide strategic direction, understand client needs and channel preferences, maximize engagement, enhance competitiveness, and ensure robust risk management. You will hold P&L accountability for pricing, features, fees, profitability, and operational resilience.

This is a critical "Win for Today" role within the Everyday Banking team, advancing Personal Banking's Empower 2030 goals: Exceptional Value Propositions and Scale & Efficiency-supported by a prudent risk culture. You will collaborate with "Transform for Tomorrow" programs and partners to future-proof the business and compete with traditional and non-traditional challengers.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Retail Payments & FX, you will lead a dynamic, high-performing team while fostering a culture aligned with the RBC Blueprint.

What will you do?

  • Lead Debit eCommerce Product Portfolio Management: Oversee Virtual Visa Debit and Interac Direct with full P&L accountability for strategy, execution, performance, risk management, and forecasting.
  • Design Client-Centric Strategies: Deeply understand client pain points, competitive landscapes, and market trends to create differentiated value propositions that drive growth and satisfaction.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Enterprise Payments, Cards & Loyalty, Commercial Banking, Operations, Risk, Digital, Marketing, and Technology teams to align on shared goals and optimize client experiences.
  • Execute Strategic Roadmaps: Translate vision into actionable plans with defined KPIs, MVPs, and iterative launches, ensuring profitability and risk mitigation.
  • Develop Financial Business Cases: Analyze market insights, validate demand, engage external partners, and collaborate with marketing to assess viability and recommend enhancements.
  • Own End-to-End Risk Management: Manage reputational, regulatory, and strategic risks; lead fraud prevention and mitigation strategies with Risk, Legal, and Compliance teams.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Initiatives: Act as accountable owner for Retail Debit eCommerce in product initiatives, formulating strategic recommendations and optimizing P&L impact.
  • Monitor Industry & Competitor Trends: Benchmark RBC's performance, maintain awareness of economic trends, and manage product impact through regular industry analysis.

Must-have
  • Strategic Influence & Collaboration: Proven experience driving industry-wide change through strategic influence and collaboration across internal/external stakeholder networks (financial institutions, regulators, payment ecosystem partners).
  • Payment Systems Expertise: Strong understanding of payment systems, financial services, payment networks, regulations, and industry dynamics.
  • Strategic Problem-Solving: Ability to simplify complexity, identify actionable solutions, and align decisions with RBC's broader goals.
  • Analytical & Financial Acumen: Strong analytical capabilities and financial expertise to drive data-informed decisions.
  • Execution & Operational Mindset: Operator's mindset with ability to anticipate downstream impacts, dive into details, and maintain big-picture alignment.
  • Leadership, Storytelling & Experience: Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal skills, and storytelling capabilities (compelling presentations, data-driven narratives for executives), backed by 7+ years of product management experience and a university degree.


Nice-to-have
  • Leadership & Talent Development: 3+ years of experience leading people and developing talent.
  • Financial & Strategic Expertise: Prior experience in P&L management, management consulting, and go-to-market strategies.
  • Industry Knowledge: Prior experience in card networks and managing strategic external relationships.
  • Education: MBA.
