Team Overview: The Digital & Technology Solutions (DTS) group under the leadership of the Chief Information Officer was established in 2023 with the mission of empowering our customers and colleagues to take on the world, by seamlessly delivering secure and reliable digital experiences. Digital & Technology Solutions has set out to achieve the following objectives for EDC:
- Define, execute, and sustain the integrated technology target state, target data model and technology operations required to enable EDC's 2030 business transformation.
- Establish and manage the rolling 3 Year Digital Roadmap that sequences the technology outcomes required to achieve the technology target state and facilitate its execution across all domains in the organization.
- Keep pace with industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring EDC has access to the digital technology tools it needs to stay relevant in the market and grow Canadian global trade.
- Lead and ensure integrated digital, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity implementations to create excellent customer, user, and employee experiences.
The Data Platform Management (DPM) delivers and operates EDC's enterprise data & AI platforms, providing secure, scalable, and reliable infrastructure for reporting, integration, analytics, and AI. The team owns platform lifecycle management, governance, and modernization, enabling data & AI solutions to be delivered and operated safely and at scale.
As Director, Data Platform Management, you lead the teams accountable for both run excellence and platform evolution. This role is about turning strategy into execution: setting clear priorities, strengthening operational discipline, and enabling greater self serve without increasing risk. You'll partner closely with peer leaders to simplify complexity, drive outcomes, and keep EDC's data and AI platforms moving forward.
What you will be doing: Data Platform Strategy and Delivery:
- Set and own the enterprise self-serve model for data platforms, clearly defining what is self-provisioned versus centrally managed to enable speed while protecting platform stability and compliance.
- Establish and enforce policy-based access and provisioning standards (e.g., role-based access, group driven entitlements) that scale with demand, reduce manual intervention, and strengthen auditability.
- Accountable for self service service design and adoption, ensuring the data platform service catalog, onboarding patterns, and technical guardrails enable efficient, consistent platform consumption across teams.
- Partner with data governance, cybersecurity, and data owners to ensure self service capabilities are compliant by design-embedding access controls, observability, and lifecycle management directly into platform services.
- Lead the design, deployment, and lifecycle management of enterprise data platforms across on premises and cloud environments, ensuring scalability, security, and high performance.
- Own the evergreen strategy and technology refresh planning for data platforms, managing lifecycle roadmaps, coordinating refresh cycles, and aligning investments with business priorities and vendor roadmaps.
Operational Excellence & Service Availability:
- Define and oversee platform operational metrics (availability, performance, capacity, utilization), ensuring proactive monitoring, trend analysis, and continuous performance optimization.
- Lead the response and resolution of major platform and cloud infrastructure incidents, ensuring timely root cause analysis, clear executive communication, and preventative improvements.
- Accountable for data platform and cloud infrastructure costs, including contract renewals, vendor performance, and ongoing value optimization across the portfolio.
- Align data platform operations with enterprise ITSM/ITOM practices, including incident, change, asset, and configuration management, to ensure predictable and mature service delivery.
Governance, Risk & Compliance:
- Own and communicate platform operational KPIs and risk posture to executive stakeholders, driving transparency, accountability, and informed decision making.
- Ensure data platform operations comply with internal policies, audit requirements, cybersecurity standards, and applicable regulatory obligations.
- Participate in enterprise risk assessments, business continuity, and disaster recovery planning for critical data platforms and cloud infrastructure components.
- Maintain accurate technology inventories, documentation, and lifecycle plans, supporting audit readiness, risk management, and long term platform sustainability.
Leadership & People Development:
- Lead, coach, and develop high performing teams of data platform administrators, cloud engineers and data architects, building strong technical leadership, clear accountability, and sustainable succession across platform domains.
- Create a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement, where reliability, automation, and learning are embedded in how teams work-not treated as side initiatives.
- Set clear direction and expectations for leaders and teams, aligning capacity, skills, and delivery priorities to platform roadmaps, service commitments, and enterprise outcomes.
- Act as a trusted partner to executive and cross functional leaders, influencing data platform direction, shaping strategic priorities, and enabling enterprise transformation through strong, credible technology leadership.
What we are looking for: - Undergraduate Degree in Computer Science or Engineering; Management Information Systems or relevant discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience with data and analytics technologies.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in leadership and people development.
