Full Job Description
Title: Director, Data Governance Transformation & Enablement

Position Summary

Serves as a senior member of the Data Office leadership team and strategic deputy to the Head of the Data Office. This role is responsible for helping shape the bank's enterprise data governance and operating model to ensure data is trusted, accessible, and leveraged as a strategic asset that drives business growth, operational excellence, informed decision-making, and AI-enabled innovation. The role will help define enterprise priorities, influence executive decision-making, and drive the organizational change required to modernize how data is managed and used across the bank.

The successful candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives, helping solve complex business challenges through the effective use of data while shaping the future direction of the Data Office. This individual will balance strategic vision with practical execution, ensuring data-related investments, governance practices, and transformation initiatives deliver measurable business value and sustainable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Data Office Leadership & Enterprise Strategy
  • Serve as the delegate for the Head of the Data Office, representing the function in executive, regulatory, and strategic forums and helping drive enterprise priorities across the Data Office portfolio.
  • Partner with the Head of the Data Office to define enterprise priorities, operating plans, investment strategies, and transformation objectives.
  • Help shape and execute the enterprise data strategy, ensuring Data Office initiatives are aligned to business priorities, regulatory expectations, risk objectives, and technology transformation.
  • Establish and drive strategic roadmaps for enterprise data capabilities, including data quality, lineage, metadata, data risk management, AI readiness, and trusted data enablement.
  • Provide senior-level perspective on enterprise data policy, operating model, and accountability decisions, ensuring requirements are practical, sustainable, and aligned to business outcomes.

Business Enablement & Strategic Advisory
  • Partner with senior business leaders to identify opportunities where improved data management can unlock business value, operational efficiency, risk reduction, client outcomes, and better decision-making.
  • Help business leaders improve decision-making speed, operational effectiveness, client experience, and business performance through better use of trusted, accessible, and well-understood data.
  • Connect enterprise data investments and capabilities to strategic business objectives, measurable outcomes, and priority transformation initiatives.
  • Challenge existing practices and recommend practical solutions that improve how data is created, managed, controlled, and used across the enterprise.

Enterprise Transformation & Operating Model Modernization
  • Lead enterprise data and operating model modernization initiatives that improve business performance, transparency, efficiency, accountability, and decision-making.
  • Identify systemic issues, organizational barriers, manual processes, and operating model inefficiencies that limit the effective use of trusted data.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce process complexity, eliminate manual workarounds, and improve business outcomes through enhanced data practices.
  • Lead resolution of cross-functional data challenges where business objectives, technology constraints, operational processes, and risk considerations require executive alignment and decision-making.

Governance, Accountability & Risk Alignment
  • Drive the development of pragmatic data management practices that balance business enablement, regulatory expectations, risk management, and operational sustainability.
  • Provide leadership across the enterprise accountability model, driving clear ownership and execution of data-related responsibilities within business and technology organizations.
  • Drive adoption of trusted data capabilities that support business strategy, analytics, regulatory reporting, AI initiatives, and enterprise decision-making.
  • Establish enterprise performance measures that track business adoption, operational effectiveness, data trust, risk reduction, and value realization from Data Office initiatives.
  • Support the modernization of data governance practices so they are embedded into business operations and viewed as enablers of business outcomes rather than administrative requirements.

Executive Engagement, Communications & Culture
  • Develop executive communications, strategic updates, and decision materials that clearly articulate Data Office priorities, risks, progress, and business value.
  • Promote a culture of data ownership, accountability, and practical problem-solving across business and technology teams.
  • Elevate data literacy and business adoption by helping stakeholders understand how trusted data supports business performance, risk management, AI, and operational resilience.
  • Represent the Data Office as a credible business partner that helps the organization solve enterprise challenges through better use of data.

Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience in financial services, consulting, operations, analytics, data management, or related disciplines.
  • Experience influencing senior executives and driving organizational change without direct authority.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing materials for executive, board, audit, and regulatory audiences.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and lead large-scale transformation efforts.
  • Strong understanding of how data supports business processes, customer outcomes, financial reporting, risk management, analytics, or operational decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise change initiatives and influencing strategic decisions across multiple business functions.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience leading large-scale business transformation or operating model modernization initiatives.
  • Experience advising senior executives on strategic planning, organizational change, or enterprise operating model design.
  • Experience working directly within business functions such as Operations, Finance, Risk, Corporate Banking, Capital Markets, or similar disciplines.
  • Experience identifying and delivering measurable business value through improved data management practices.
  • Experience modernizing or designing enterprise data governance frameworks/policies.

What Success Looks Like

  • Data ownership and accountability are embedded within business operations.
  • Strategic business initiatives, analytics, and AI capabilities can leverage trusted and well-understood data.
  • Regulatory expectations are satisfied through sustainable operating practices rather than point-in-time remediation efforts.

  • Not a second-line risk or compliance role.
  • Not focused on coding, system configuration, or technical platform administration.
