About the position:

We are seeking a senior Pharma & Healthcare banker with strong large-cap corporate relationships who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys working as part of an established, successful team. The individual should be a self-starter who collaborates closely with team members across the TMT & Healthcare platform and with colleagues across the wider organization.

The role requires an experienced, entrepreneurial banker who can manage and grow an active portfolio with limited supervision, supported by junior sector bankers and broad product coverage. The individual will be responsible for originating new corporate opportunities across Pharma, Medical Devices, and broader Healthcare in the region, positioning ING for lead roles in syndicated and bilateral financings; and expanding cross-buy opportunities across ING’s wholesale and investment banking product suite. Deep sector expertise, strong credit judgment, and a solid understanding of international wholesale banking products are essential. Given the seniority of the role, the successful candidate must be able to engage credibly with C-suite executives and senior treasurers, deliver an outstanding client experience, coordinate the delivery of strategic financial solutions, manage an international network, and contribute meaningfully to the sector’s growth strategy in the region.

About the department:

ING’s Healthcare sector sits within the TMT & Healthcare cluster of Wholesale Banking and is responsible for developing wholesale banking business globally across these sectors. The team delivers a full range of solutions, including financing, financial markets, transaction services such as cash management, working capital, and trade finance, and advisory through teams in Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Americas. In the Americas, the Healthcare team is based in New York and represents one of the region’s growth engines within one of the firm’s fastest-growing platforms.

Responsibilities :

  • The successful candidate will define client strategy and develop and manage relationships with corporate clients and selected sponsors across the Pharma & Healthcare sector. Working closely with sector colleagues, product specialists, in-country coverage bankers, and other stakeholders, the individual will drive origination of multiproduct business with high-grade clients while overseeing ongoing relationship management and portfolio development. Responsibilities include leading origination efforts, supporting deal structuring and credit analysis, guiding deal teams, managing internal approvals and legal documentation as required, and coordinating with product teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet cross-buy and return objectives.
  • The role will focus on originating new business with large multinational Pharma & Healthcare corporates by leveraging ING’s international network and full suite of Wholesale Banking solutions.
  • Build, develop, and maintain close client relationships as the primary point of contact, while coordinating presentations and pitches that lead to new mandates.
  • Support achievement of sector income, fee, cross-buy, ESG, and return targets, along with other financial and non-financial KPIs.
  • Provide direction and leadership to deal teams, ensuring efficient resource allocation and strong execution support. Oversee client marketing, transaction origination, and execution, taking the lead where appropriate.
    • Identify and monitor industry developments / opportunities across the Americas Pharma & Healthcare sector. Continuously deepen knowledge of the industry, competitive landscape, product capabilities, and macroeconomic trends, and contribute to ING strategic initiatives.
    • Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to team members, supporting both performance and professional development while fostering a strong performance culture.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Graduate or post-graduate degree holder in Business/Finance/Economics or other relevant disciplines
  • Minimum of 15 years of wholesale / investment banking experience (or other relevant field).
  • Thought leader in the Pharma & Healthcare sector(s) and deep, established corporate client relationships in the Americas
  • Strong understanding of wholesale banking products, including Lending, International Cash Management, Working Capital Solutions, Trade Finance, Debt Capital Markets & Financial Markets
  • Experience in structuring and deal execution in Pharma & Healthcare transactions in corporate/wholesale banking market
  • Sound knowledge of credit, financial models and loans documentation, including training and developing junior talent
  • Entrepreneurial, strong analytical, presentation, leadership and communication skills.
  • An effective team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of self-motivation.
  • Series SIE, 79/63 required or to be obtained shortly after start

Salary Range $250,000-$300,000

The salary range listed reflects base salary only. This role is eligible for participation in a discretionary bonus program.
