Job DescriptionWe're seeking a future team member for the role of Director, Corporate Communications to join our Corporate Communications team. This role can be located in Washington D.C., or New York City.
In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
- Manage a team of external communications professionals and less experienced managers dedicated to setting and implementing the external communication strategy by identifying and pursuing key opportunities that advance and protect the company's reputation.
- Direct strategic, proactive external communication plans at the corporate level using traditional, social, and digital channels.
- Support external communications around the company's major corporate events and in support of regulatory filings.
- Collaborate closely with key leaders and the Investor Relations team to ensure the company is best positioned externally.
- Support the development of messaging and external positioning for key sensitive and reputational issues, working closely with Legal and the business.
- Provide thought leadership on organizational initiatives and products/services pertaining to external communications and reputational management.
- Manage the performance of assigned professional staff and less experienced managers, coaching and guiding them.
- Play a central role in implementing external communications strategies and contribute to the development of a compelling corporate narrative that advances the company's reputation and understanding of its strategy.
- Direct a media relations program, including providing counsel and guidance to key executive stakeholders on appropriate messaging and profiling.
- Build and maintain relationships with key media outlets, educating reporters on the company and its capabilities and identifying opportunities to advance the company's external communications strategy.
- Ensure consistency of approach and messaging across the team.
- Responsible for the achievement of department goals and objectives, talent management, supervision of members of a global team, and management of budgets across programs.
- Modify approaches based upon local regulations and requirements.
To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience required. Degree in Marketing/Communications is preferred.
- 12-15 years of total work experience with at least 3-5 years of management experience preferred.
- Background in a philanthropic function preferred.

BNY assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package for our employees. The base salary for this position is expected to be between $130,000 and $230,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base salary if hired will be determined on an individualized basis, including as to experience and market location, and is only part of the BNY total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, short and long-term incentive packages, and Company-sponsored benefit programs.
This position is at-will and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, change in geographic location, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
