Full Job Description
Job Description

The Director, Core & Cloud Infrastructure will lead the strategy, modernization, and day-to-day health of Alkermes' core infrastructure and cloud operations model. This is a senior leadership role with real ownership over the platforms, partners, roadmaps, and operating model that help keep the business running securely, reliably, and at scale.

The role is responsible for the infrastructure services that support Alkermes across five facilities, including three in the United States and two in Ireland. This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants to shape the next phase of enterprise infrastructure in a growing, regulated business. The work includes modernizing core platforms, improving resilience, strengthening support models, and ensuring infrastructure can support business growth, security needs, and future innovation.

The position is based in Waltham, MA, and follows a hybrid schedule, with three days per week in the office. The Director will manage a team of four direct reports and lead a managed service provider model of approximately 50 onshore and offshore team members.

This person will work closely with Emerging Technologies & Engineering, Information Security, Infrastructure Applications, business teams, and strategic service providers. The right candidate will be comfortable moving between strategy and execution, helping teams make good decisions, and keeping services stable while continuing to improve them.

Responsibilities

Why Join Alkermes
  • You'll have real ownership of infrastructure strategy, not just operations. The role has room to improve how services are designed, supported, measured, and run.
  • You'll support work that matters in a life sciences company, where reliable technology helps teams focus on patients, science, manufacturing, and business growth.
  • You'll lead a blended model of internal employees and managed service provider resources, with the ability to shape expectations, accountability, and service quality.
  • You'll work across a global footprint with five facilities in the United States and Ireland, giving the role meaningful scale without losing the ability to make practical changes.
  • You'll join at a time when infrastructure maturity, cloud operations, resilience, security, and cost discipline all matter.
  • You'll have a real opportunity to strengthen the infrastructure foundation and leave the environment better than you found it.

What You'll Own
  • Infrastructure strategy, roadmaps, standards, and investment priorities across core platforms and cloud operations.
  • Engineering, delivery, lifecycle management, and operational support for compute, virtualization, operating systems, storage, backup, networking, monitoring, patching, and infrastructure tooling.
  • Modernization efforts that improve reliability, resilience, scalability, security, supportability, and cost discipline.
  • The transition of new platforms and cloud services into sustainable operations, with clear ownership, documentation, monitoring, controls, and support models.
  • Service reliability, availability, capacity planning, disaster recovery, business continuity, and major incident management.
  • Vendor, cloud provider, and managed service partner performance, including service commitments, improvement plans, contracts, and governance.
  • Infrastructure operating and capital budgets, with a practical focus on spend visibility and cost management.
  • Security, quality, and compliance expectations for a regulated environment, working closely with the right partners to keep services well controlled.
  • Internal and partner teams, with a focus on accountability, strong execution, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

What Success Looks Like
  • Core infrastructure services are stable, secure, well documented, and easier to support.
  • Cloud operations are governed, resilient, cost-aware, and ready for long-term support.
  • Platform roadmaps are clear, funded, and aligned to business, security, and operational priorities.
  • Vendors and service partners are held to clear expectations, and performance is measurable.
  • Teams know what matters most, who owns what, and how decisions get made.
  • Major incidents are reduced through better monitoring, resilience, problem management, and follow-through.

Leadership Style Expectations
  • Leads with ownership, calm urgency, and sound judgment.
  • Explains technical topics clearly to business, leadership, and technical teams.
  • Builds trust by being practical, consistent, and easy to work with.
  • Balances good governance with the need to keep work moving.
  • Creates clear ownership, accountability, and room for the team to raise risks early.

Qualifications

Experience We're Looking For
  • 12 or more years of progressive infrastructure, cloud, and technology operations experience, with meaningful leadership responsibility in enterprise environments.
  • Strong background leading infrastructure engineering, solution delivery, cloud operations, and technology operations teams.
  • Broad technical depth across compute, virtualization, Windows and Linux platforms, networking, storage, backup and recovery, monitoring, patch management, automation, and cloud operations.
  • Experience building infrastructure roadmaps and leading large platform modernization, lifecycle, resiliency, and service improvement efforts.
  • Experience managing strategic vendors, cloud providers, managed service providers, and complex global technology environments.
  • Strong financial, vendor governance, risk management, and operational leadership skills.
  • Proven ability to lead change, develop technical talent, influence across teams, and communicate well with senior leaders and business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent education and experience.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Healthcare, Manufacturing, or another regulated industry.
  • Working knowledge of GxP, FDA, SOX, HIPAA, GDPR, and related security, quality, and compliance expectations.
  • Experience supporting business continuity, disaster recovery, audit readiness, or infrastructure services in a regulated global environment.
