We are recruiting for two Director positions. While both roles operate within the same leadership framework, each has a distinct focus and scope of responsibility. Key differences are outlined below.

Director, Clinical Systems - Care Experience serves as the strategic connector between Clinical Systems, Patient Experience, Digital Health, IT, and operational partners to advance patient-centered digital engagement. This role focuses on optimizing the systems, workflows, and communication platforms that shape the patient experience, ensuring seamless, coordinated, and innovative interactions across Mayo Clinic's digital care journey.

Director, Clinical Systems - Outpatient serves as a strategic partner and connector across outpatient Practice Leadership, Clinical Systems, Informatics, IT, Education, Digital Health, and operational stakeholders. The role aligns clinical operations, technology, data, and emerging AI capabilities to advance ambulatory care delivery while guiding the development, adoption, and optimization of clinical systems that improve access, care team efficiency, operational performance, and the future readiness of outpatient practice.

Overview
  • Drive results for one or more functional units by providing managerial and technical expertise
  • Ensure optimal operational and system performance, including future system design
  • Align initiatives with Clinical Systems and enterprise-wide strategic goals


Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Alignment: Contribute to clinical systems strategy, roadmaps, and tools that support key practice goals
  • Collaboration: Work with diverse practices (Lab, Radiology, Cardiology, Ambulatory, Inpatient, etc.) and multidisciplinary teams (IT, Informatics, Education, and others)
  • Advocacy: Represent practice needs within clinical systems units and governing bodies


Leadership & Project Management
  • Lead matrixed clinical systems teams on:
    • Software and system analysis across multiple clinical/business functions
    • System implementation and integration projects
    • Development of enterprise-wide clinical systems strategy
    • Reporting and analytics to support practice performance
    • Scaling innovative solutions for broad implementation
  • Act as liaison between clinical, business, and technical teams throughout project lifecycle
  • Oversee mid- to large-scale operational projects, delegating tasks and directing teams


Partnership & Expertise
  • Build strong partnerships with clinical and business areas to understand workflows
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of existing systems, tools, and best practices
  • Coordinate implementation efforts across multiple organizational boundaries


Qualifications

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following fields:
    • Management
    • Operations Research
    • Analytics
    • Industrial or Systems Engineering
    • Business Administration
    • Healthcare Administration
    • Health-related field
      PLUS 12 years of experience, including 2 years of demonstrated leadership in a clinical systems environment

      OR
  • Master's degree in one of the above fields
    PLUS 9 years of experience, including 2 years of leadership in a clinical systems organization with extensive knowledge of clinic operations or IT systems (strongly preferred)


Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical practice and patient flow within a large healthcare institution
  • Experience across multiple areas of a large healthcare institution and/or clinical systems operations
  • Proficiency with:
    • Word-processing tools
    • Data analysis tools
    • Spreadsheets
    • Presentation software


Preferred
  • Epic certification (may be required based on position scope and needs)
