What You'll Be Doing

Capital Markets Controllership is a key function within the Finance organization that ensures accurate and timely financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective internal controls related to capital markets activities. It supports prudent risk management, ensures alignment with accounting standards, oversight on valuation, profit-and-loss results, and balance sheet integrity for Capital Markets books. This role provides accounting expertise for several Capital Markets businesses and offers valuable advice to stakeholders across the Bank.

This is a high-profile role reporting to the Capital Markets Controller. It leads a large team of finance professionals to drive best in class accounting support, collaborate with stakeholders across the bank to resolve complex issues, and enable process transformation through strategic enhancements. This role collaborates with business partners, Controllership, CFO groups, and teams across the bank. You will have exposure to multiple finance and business executive teams. You will embody the CIBC One Finance Vision and Guiding Principles.

How You'll Succeed
  • Accounting and Controls - You provide accurate, complete, and timely input to the reporting groups. You provide accounts attestation and ensure all balance sheet accounts are substantiated. You inspire adherence to timing in Service Level Agreements, and liaise with various teams including Accounting Policy, Reporting, Valuation, Product Control, and CFO groups to ensure services are delivered.
  • Agility - You maintain agile accounting processes and controls to ensure timeliness and accuracy. Ensure changes in accounting policies/requirements are implemented in a controlled manner. Work with Chief Accountant's Group to ensure policy as mandated and agreed with other governance partners to ensure CIBC control environment is visible, robust and efficient. Maintain adequate end to end process maps and detailed task manuals in accordance with best practices, regulatory requirements, SOX, and Internal Control.
  • Relationship management - You have good teamwork, partnership, and relationship building skills sufficient to act in a collaborative manner given team members and stakeholders different backgrounds and experiences. You will liaise within Controllership/Finance and with other stakeholder groups in Front Office, Technology, and Operations to support business initiatives and solve complex problems.

Who You Are
  • You can demonstrate experience in concepts and processes for the accounting of financial instruments including fixed income, derivatives, repo/reverse repos, and other loans products. You have strong Capital Markets accounting background which you leverage to perform oversight over accounting functions and ensure the design & operating effectiveness of financial controls. You have strong knowledge of IFRS and Financial Reporting requirements for Financial Instruments. You also have experience working with alternative investments such as direct private equity investments and/or direct fund investments. It is an asset if you have public accounting firm experience.
  • You're a certified professional. You have current accreditation and are in good standing with CPA or you are a CFA charter-holder with relevant work experience.
