About the Role

The Business Development Director of Energy Storage will be responsible for the day-to-day execution and management of the commercial function, with primary accountability for generating qualified leads, developing new business opportunities, and driving revenue growth across the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Utility Scale energy storage markets. This individual will play a critical role in expanding the company's market presence, opening new customer relationships, and ensuring a robust and sustainable commercial pipeline aligned with the company's revenue and growth objectives.

Reporting to the SVP of Commercial, this role will focus on execution, team coordination, opportunity development, and commercial delivery, while supporting the broader commercial strategy defined at the executive level. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring deep industry expertise, strong commercial execution skills, and demonstrated experience in energy storage and renewable energy markets.

Lead Generation and Market Development
  • Generate and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified leads sufficient to meet and exceed company revenue and growth targets.
  • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the Commercial & Industrial and Utility Scale energy storage markets.
  • Proactively open new customer accounts, partnerships, and commercial channels.
  • Expand the company's market presence and establish long-term customer relationships in target segments

Commercial Execution and Opportunity Management
  • Lead customer engagements from initial contact through proposal, negotiation, and contract execution.
  • Manage and prioritize the commercial pipeline, ensuring disciplined execution and timely follow-up.
  • Coordinate the preparation of commercial proposals in collaboration with engineering, finance, and product teams.
  • Support contract negotiations and ensure commercially sound agreements aligned with company objectives.

Commercial Team and Operational Leadership
  • Coordinate and manage the daily activities of the commercial and business development team.
  • Establish clear priorities, accountability, and execution discipline across the commercial organization.
  • Ensure effective internal coordination between commercial, engineering, product, and finance teams.
  • Support the scaling and development of the commercial function as the company grows.

Customer and Industry Engagement
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, developers, EPCs, utilities, and strategic partners.
  • Represent the company in customer meetings, industry events, and commercial discussions.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, competitive landscape, and customer needs.

Qualifications, Functional Experience & Skills

Required
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in commercial, business development, or sales roles within the energy storage (BESS) and renewable energy sectors.
  • Proven track record of generating leads, developing pipeline, and closing commercial opportunities in Commercial & Industrial and Utility Scale markets.
  • Direct and demonstrable experience working with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Strong understanding of the renewable energy and energy storage value chain, including developers, EPCs, utilities, and end customers.

Candidates without direct experience in BESS and renewable energy commercial roles will not be considered.

Preferred
  • Experience managing commercial teams or coordinating cross-functional commercial activities.
  • Technical background in electrical engineering, energy systems, or related field.
  • Experience working in high-growth or fast-paced environments.
  • Existing network of relevant industry contacts and customers.

The total compensation package for this position may also vary depending on the level at which the role is offered (Non-Sr., Sr., Lead, Manager, Snr Manager, where appropriate). The compensation range for this role is between $190,000 - $220,000 + benefits
