Job Summary
The Director of Automation and Control Systems is responsible for oversight and guidance of all functions of the Automation & Controls team collaborating closely with engineering to foster a culture of continuous innovation and improvement. This position will provide strategic input to the capital planning process and foster cross-functional collaboration to ensure alignment with GAF's innovation and manufacturing optimization initiatives. While at the same time driving continuous operational support to the production facilities.

Essential Duties
  • Effectively manage all functions of Automation and Controls group;
  • Ensure strategic contribution to the manufacturing facilities 3 & 5 year capital plans.
  • Collaborate with other functional groups (ie., IT, Process Services, Corporate Engineering, GAF Business Systems, R&D) in order that the Automation and Controls team is appropriately integrated into GAF and Standard Industries. Ensure that the Automation and Controls group’s machine standards are maintained by our customers, vendors and our engineering machine builders.
  • Manage all financial responsibilities of the Automation and Controls team: 1) Capitalized projects; 2) Budget development, management and financial reporting for the Commercial Automation and Controls team; 3) collaborate with our operations systems team to identify and implement all Automation and Controls team software.
  • Manage engineering practices and application throughout the Automation and Controls team; Ensure mitigation of obsolescence in controls systems and implement process improvements through setting priorities and managing the project implementation process from development to deployment for all projects funded and managed by the Automation and Controls team. Ensure documentation for controls systems associated with the Automation and Controls team projects is in place and up to date.
  • Provides leadership and support for departmental teams while promoting a collaborative, customer service philosophy along with a supportive working environment. Promotes continuous education to ensure all team members remain current with emerging technologies and apply these to optimize manufacturing processes. Ensure that the Automation and Controls team builds and maintains a high level of integrity with internal and external customers.
  • Promote a culture of safety excellence ensuring team members are focused on machine health and personal safety in machine and system development. Ensure all corporate safety standards are implemented and followed.

Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing
  • Experience leading Automation & Controls projects across multiple manufacturing locations
  • Proven experience leading a team indirectly or directly
  • Proven relationship building and development of strong partnerships
  • Working knowledge of: Computer assisted drawing; Human machine interface development; Programmable logic controllers; G-Suite; Advanced diagnostic tools

Base salary and/or rate of pay ranges listed are exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Individual compensation offers will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to geographic location, relevant candidate experience and skill, education, and/or qualifications.

Base Salary Range: $180,000-$230,000
