Full Job Description
JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Technical Training Supervisor, this role is responsible for evaluating, creating, tailoring, and maintaining technical documentation, service training literature, wiring schematics, trouble-shooting trees, training materials, and other internal and external technical documents. Duties will include but are not limited to: researching technical topics and associated engineering drawings for new and existing products, creating diagrams for service training literature and trouble-shooting guides, liaison with internal and external engineering personnel to garner deep understanding for a wide array of technical documentation and creation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, review, revise, and maintain service manuals, troubleshooting guides, repair procedures, wiring schematics, technical service bulletins, and other technical publications.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for EV and alternatively powered vehicle technical documentation, diagnostic procedures, and service content development.
  • Research new and existing vehicle systems, engineering drawings, specifications, and service requirements to create accurate technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product Development, Technical Training, and Field Service teams to ensure technical content reflects current product designs and service requirements.
  • Analyze field service data and recurring technical issues to identify trends and develop effective troubleshooting procedures and decision trees.
  • Create and maintain service training materials that support technician development and improve diagnostic effectiveness across the service network.
  • Utilize OEM and industry-standard diagnostic tools to validate troubleshooting procedures for scripted diagnostic documentation creation
  • Craft tailored documentation to support complex field issues involving EV propulsion systems, batteries, charging systems, thermal management, and vehicle communications networks.
  • Ensure all technical publications and related training materials are accurate, consistent, user-friendly, and compliant with established documentation standards.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to audiences with varying levels of technical expertise.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR SUCCESS

  • Extensive knowledge of automotive service operations, diagnostic methodologies, and vehicle repair practices.
  • Advanced understanding of electric vehicle systems, including high-voltage batteries, charging systems, power electronics, electric propulsion systems, and thermal management systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and network communications, including CAN, J1939, and OBD-II protocols.
  • Demonstrated contributions to a variety of technical publications which may include service manuals, troubleshooting guides, technical service bulletins, repair procedures or other similar technical literature.
  • Proficiency with automotive diagnostic software, service tools, and technical documentation platforms.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, service specifications, and technical data.
  • Knowledge and application of NFPA 70E electrical safety standards and safe work practices around high-voltage systems.
  • Qualification and demonstrated experience working on or around high-voltage electric vehicle systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise documentation for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience utilizing 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX), technical illustration software, or similar documentation tools preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and technical content development software preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.


BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in automotive technical service operations, including diagnostics, repair support, service engineering, and technical problem resolution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of field experience or product development supporting alternatively powered vehicles, preferably battery electric vehicles (EVs).
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience developing service manuals, troubleshooting guides, repair procedures, wiring schematics, technical service bulletins, or similar technical service documentation.
  • All candidates must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and will be required to provide proof of employment eligibility at the time of hire.
