Full Job Description
Candidate will build, enhance, and support critical mainframe applications that facilitate healthcare claims processing and core business operations. This position requires comprehensive experience with COBOL, JCL, DB2, and CICS, as well as the ability to analyze requirements, resolve production issues, and deliver dependable application solutions.

Required Qualifications of the Developer III Mainframe:
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship or work with Third-Party agencies.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or 4 years of relevant experience; or 2 years of relevant experience combined with an Associate's degree in a related field.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience in application development, systems testing, or a related technical area.
  • Demonstrated, current hands-on experience with COBOL, including development and maintenance of batch and online applications.
  • Strong JCL skills, including batch processing, job scheduling, restart/recovery, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong DB2 and SQL experience, including data access, query development, and performance optimization.
  • Hands-on CICS experience with online transaction processing, application development, and production support.
  • Proven ability to evaluate business requirements, design technical solutions, assess application impacts, and troubleshoot complex system issues.
  • Healthcare payer or health insurance experience is strongly preferred, particularly experience supporting claims processing systems.
  • Must be able to work onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with additional onsite attendance as required; an in-person interview and credit check are required.

Preferred Skills/Experience of the Developer III Mainframe:

Experience supporting healthcare payer applications is highly desirable, especially in claims adjudication, eligibility, benefits, pricing, provider, pharmacy, or related claims-processing functions. Familiarity with IMS, IBM MQ/MQ Series, VS Code, GitHub, GitHub Copilot, Zowe, Node.js, Git-based development, and AI-assisted coding tools is a plus.

Responsibilities of the Developer III Mainframe:
  • Analyze business needs and system requirements to create technical designs and implement application solutions.
  • Develop, modify, test, debug, and maintain COBOL applications supporting both batch and online processing.
  • Develop and maintain JCL workflows, including scheduling, batch execution, recovery, restart procedures, and troubleshooting.
  • Create and optimize DB2 SQL, work with application data, and investigate performance-related issues.
  • Develop and support CICS transactions while diagnosing and resolving production problems in critical applications.
  • Support enhancements, releases, implementations, production deployments, business initiatives, and a rotating on-call schedule.

Work Location: Columbia, SC - Hybrid/partial onsite. Standard hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM Eastern Time, with onsite work required Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday plus additional onsite time as needed.
