Full Job Description
Position Overview:

As part of the Equipment Design Engineering (EDE) team, the Design Standards Coordinator is responsible for the development, governance, maintenance, and continuous improvement of equipment design engineering standards, drafting practices, and related documentation.

This role serves as the central authority for design standardization across mechanical, electrical, and multi-discipline EDE teams, ensuring consistent, compliant, manufacturable, and scalable design execution across products and projects.

The Design Standards Coordinator works closely with engineering leadership, designers, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and sustaining engineering to align standards with production realities, regulatory requirements, and best-in-class engineering practices. The focus of the role is standards governance, practical application, and continuous improvement-reducing rework, eliminating ambiguity, and improving cross-team alignment.

Key Responsibilities:

What you will do:

1) Design Standards & Governance
  • Own and maintain EDE design standards, guidelines, templates, and best-practice documentation (drawings, models, BOMs, naming conventions, and documentation structure).
  • Ensure standards align with regulatory requirements, internal engineering policies, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for interpretation and application of EDE design standards.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate and external standards (CSA, ASME Y14, ISO, ANSI, and internal Silent-Aire standards).
  • Govern updates through defined review, approval, and communication processes.
  • Lead periodic reviews to address gaps, inefficiencies, and recurring design issues.
  • Support change management activities for new or revised standards, including communication and rollout.

2) Standards Implementation & Compliance
  • Act as the primary EDE contact for standards interpretation and application.
  • Review design and drafting outputs (as needed or on a sampling basis) for standards compliance.
  • Support Design Review and CoLab processes from a standards-compliance perspective.
  • Identify recurring non-conformances and drive corrective actions through clarification or updates to standards.

3) Cross-Functional Coordination
  • Coordinate standards alignment between EDE and Design Engineering (DE) to ensure consistency across construction packages, submittals, and drawings.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Sustaining Engineering to incorporate manufacturability, inspection, and lifecycle feedback into standards.
  • Support peer reviews and standards interpretation without acting as a design authority or engineer of record.

4) Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and reduce complexity in drawings, BOMs, and documentation.
  • Support the development of standard parts, modules, and design patterns.
  • Capture lessons learned and integrate them into standards, guidelines, and training materials.

5) Training & Enablement
  • Develop and maintain training materials related to EDE design standards.
  • Support onboarding and upskilling of engineers and designers on standards, tools, and expectations.
  • Act as a subject-matter resource for standards-related questions across EDE.

What You Will Do:
  • Consistent application of EDE design standards across drawings, models, and BOMs.
  • Reduced rework and improved alignment between DE, EDE, and Manufacturing.
  • Clear, usable, and adopted standards (not shelfware).
  • Improved design quality, clarity, and scalability of EDE deliverables.
  • Faster onboarding and stronger design execution through improved documentation and training.
  • Serve as the single source of truth for EDE standards interpretation.

What we are looking for:
  • Diploma or Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in equipment design, drafting, or engineering support within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of engineering drawing standards and documentation best practices (e.g., ASME Y14).
  • Experience with 3D CAD and PLM systems (e.g., Creo, Windchill).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to apply standards consistently.
  • Clear communicator capable of working effectively across engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in HVAC or industrial equipment manufacturing.
  • Prior involvement in standards development, governance, or process improvement.
  • Familiarity with ECR/ECM change management processes.
  • Experience supporting design reviews or audit-type activities.
