Full Job Description
McKessons Real Estate Team is looking for a Design Manager to join the team. Oversees consulting project activities from client identification through final invoicing. Project management responsibilities include resource allocation and supervision, interface with company and client managers, and cost/schedule monitoring. Financial responsibilities include project cost estimating, proposal generation, and invoicing. Technical responsibilities may include problem identification, system architecture definition, hardware/software specification and/or design, implementation, testing, client training, and deployment.

Key Responsibilities

- Collaborates with the Business Partner, Director of Project Delivery, and Project Managers to support a portfolio of capital projects within Texas.

- Engages with Delivery Team and Business Unit (client) leadership to develop complete project scope and goals that are patient-focused, fiscally conscious, and spatially efficient.

- Requests and analyzes client data to inform and substantiate design solutions during programming.

- Prepares site / massing diagrams for conceptualization. Supervises or personally develops blocking plan and space plans for client approval.

- Facilitates design iterations in accordance with executed task orders/contracts and advises the team where change requests may result in additional design fees or change orders.

- Influences client decisions in a tactful and supportive manner; presents design rationale using evidence-based design standards.

- Ensures client understanding of contract documents & scoping for the purposes of client sign-off; leverages & encourages use of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, or mock-ups as allowable within budget.

- Reviews architectural and engineering documents produced by external design firms at each stage gate for compliance with design guidelines, codes, ordinances, best practices, and approved client requests.

- Routinely coordinates budgetary and schedule needs with delivery peers, escalating risks as needed.

- Accesses and updates project notes, tasks, and dates in project and portfolio management platforms.

- Leverages authorized AI-enabled tools to support programming, feasibility analysis, option development, document review, and workflow efficiency. Experience using emerging AI tools is highly-preferred.

- Encourages design innovation while documenting best practices as standards.

- Collaborates closely with the FFE Specialist to ensure full coordination of finishes, schedules, and infrastructure. Personal experience with FFE is highly-desirable.

Minimum Requirements

Degree or equivalent and typically requires 4+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Requirements

- At least 4 years of design management experience, during employment at an architectural or interior design firm, or with mixed experience as an Owner's Representative.

- Registered Architect or Licensed Interior Designer preferred, or actively pursuing licensure.

- At least 2 years of experience in healthcare design.

- Proficiency in AutoCAD & Bluebeam. Revit proficiency is a plus.

- Self-directed & motivated.

- Education, accreditation or experience with WELL or LEED-certified projects is preferred.

Skills

- Intermediate competency using AI tools for design analysis, optioning, data review, and workflow improvement.

- FFE specification & validation experience preferred, including finishes, fixtures, equipment coordination, and alignment with infrastructure requirements.

- Strong organizational and coordination skills.

- Skilled at tailoring communication for diverse audiences across all operational and clinical roles.

$93,500 - $155,900
