Full Job Description
The McKesson Pharmacy Systems (MPS) team is looking for an AI & Cloud Architect to support architecture design and delivery across pharmacy platforms, cloud infrastructure, and emerging AI capabilities. This role will focus on enabling scalable, secure, and modern solutions across EnterpriseRx and related pharmacy systems while advancing cloud adoption, automation, and AI-driven experiences.

As part of MPS, you will contribute to modernization of core pharmacy systems and the evolution of an AI-ready platform foundation, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and supporting innovation across pharmacy operations.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture Design & Execution (10% to start but increases 25%)

  • Translate business and product requirements into scalable architecture designs for pharmacy systems and platforms


  • Support implementation of architecture strategy across cloud, AI, and application domains


  • Contribute to roadmaps for platform modernization, cloud adoption, AI enablement, and automation


Cloud & Infrastructure (10-15% to start but increases to 25%)

  • Design and implement Azure-based solutions supporting pharmacy platforms, including compute, networking, identity, and storage


  • Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Bicep, or ARM to standardize and automate environment provisioning


  • Establish repeatable, automated patterns for standing up development, test, and production environments


  • Ensure alignment with enterprise cloud governance, security, and landing zone standards


  • Optimize reliability, scalability, and cost through cloud-native design principles


  • Implement GitOps practices to enable declarative, version-controlled infrastructure and application deployments with automated promotion across environments


AI & Platform Enablement (60% to start but drops down in 6 months to 25%)

  • Support integration of AI capabilities into pharmacy systems to enhance workflows and customer experience


  • Promote adoption of AI tools and capabilities across engineering, product, and business teams to improve productivity and decision-making


  • Assist in enabling intelligent application experiences using retrieval-based architectures and contextual data access


  • Focus on practical application of AI to improve user outcomes, operational efficiency, and customer engagement


Application Architecture & Modernization (20% to start but drops down to 25%)

  • Provide architecture support for EnterpriseRx and other MPS applications across design, development, and deployment


  • Promote domain-oriented service architecture aligned to business capabilities, moving away from overly granular microservices


  • Enable clear service boundaries, data ownership, and scalability through domain-driven design principles


  • Drive continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices using GitHub Actions and modern DevOps tooling


  • Enable automated testing, deployment pipelines, and release management practices


  • Support DevSecOps integration to ensure secure and compliant delivery pipelines


Governance, Security, and Compliance (Considered in all things worked on)

  • Apply enterprise architecture standards and ensure alignment with established governance practices


  • Partner with teams to review and guide solution designs, ensuring consistency, scalability, and alignment with enterprise direction


  • Ensure solutions meet regulatory, security, and compliance requirements specific to healthcare and pharmacy systems


  • Support reuse, standardization, and optimization of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) across platforms


Operational Excellence (Ad-hoc)

  • Support production readiness, monitoring, and observability of cloud and application solutions


  • Ensure automation is embedded across infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and operational workflows


  • Contribute to performance optimization, reliability, and continuous improvement efforts across environments


  • Participate in operational support and lifecycle management of deployed solutions


Collaboration & Enablement (Organizational Agility, Networking, and Team Building as part of our culture)

This position offers the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement based on recent updates to our in-office/work-from-home model. If located in DFW area, the selected candidate may be expected to work on-site at our Las Colinas office a minimum of two (2) days per week, with the remaining days worked remotely. Specific in-office days may be designated according to team needs and business priorities.
