Job Summary The Design Engineer is responsible for designing photovoltaic (PV) solar energy systems for commercial, industrial, utility-scale, or residential projects. The role involves creating engineering drawings, performing electrical and structural calculations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and local regulations, and supporting project teams from concept through construction and commissioning. Design Engineers collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, civil engineers, procurement teams, and field personnel to develop cost-effective, safe, and efficient solar power solutions.

- Performs detailed design and prepare drawings for all aspects of PV electrical power systems to include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, conduit and cable sizing/routing, grounding design, general arrangement, selection of equipment, wiring diagrams, trench section drawings, inverter layout drawings, and BESS equipment layout and detail drawings.
- Provides conceptual and high-level designs during bidding stage of projects with very little information or direction
- Prepares drawings for civil and structural aspects of PV design as required
- Prepares a variety of documents and reports associated with projects including basis of designs, bill of materials, and studies as required
- Design solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, including module layouts, inverter sizing, and electrical distribution.
- Prepare engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, site plans, and construction documents.
- Perform energy production analysis and system performance modeling.
- Conduct electrical calculations such as voltage drop, conductor sizing, short-circuit analysis, and equipment selection.
- Coordinate civil, structural, and electrical designs for solar installations.
- Review project specifications, contracts, and utility requirements.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, NESC, IFC, IBC, local building codes, and utility interconnection standards.
- Support permitting and utility interconnection applications.
- Collaborate with construction teams to resolve field design issues.
- Evaluate new technologies and optimize system performance and project costs.
- Participate in design reviews and value engineering efforts.Provides a major role in the QA/QC process and takes initiative and ownership on all project and task quality

Knowledge/Skills/AbilityProficiency with AutoCAD required; Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and additional computer software; Possesses effective written and oral communications skills; Assists with client contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments and meetings. Must possess strong technical verbal and technical writing skills and be able to read technical literature and engineering plans. Must demonstrate two-way communication to effectively work with internal staff and external clients. Knowledge of project management and EPC delivery methods. Knowledge of solar PV system design principles. Familiarity with electrical power systems and renewable energy technologies.
Education Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience4 + years of engineering design, utility-scale solar, power generation, or EPC experience. or other relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or microgrids preferred.
