Project Overview:

Bechtel's Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) Business Unit is designing, building and commissioning a semiconductor fab in Clay, NY. M&T is an exciting and growing business unit that serves customers in the semiconductor, datacenter, life sciences, and electric vehicle markets. Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead a team and interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate the engineering technical aspects for complex projects. You will participate in project planning, proposal review, and will own the engineering elements of capital estimates. Your technical guidance and recommendations will ensure engineering aspects meet project requirements and remain within scope and budget.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Directs and manages design and engineering activities for projects of medium to large scale.
  • Manages complex interactions among multiple Bechtel entities or client-mandated collaborations with other contractors as required.
  • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of administrative practices.
  • Responsible for providing inputs to, and owning, the engineering components of a project's capital estimate including quantities and budgets for the execution phase of the project.
  • Performs and manages the work in accordance with relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design guides and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Supports the construction schedule and ensures engineering support during construction.
  • Collaborates actively with the Project Manager, Project Engineering Manager, Procurement, Construction, Startup, Environmental Safety and Health (ES&H), and Project Controls to align engineering tasks.
  • As the Resident Engineering Manager, provides leadership and technical guidance to the resident engineering team at the project site.
  • Engages collaboratively with client representatives, suppliers, field personnel, and engineers on-site to ensure compliance with all project specifications and requirements.
  • Reports directly to the Resident Engineering Manager (REM), taking responsibility for ensuring that facilities and systems are installed in accordance with project deliverables, specifications, and applicable technical standards.
  • Interfaces with the Architect of Record/Engineer of Record (AOR/EOR) and delivers comprehensive field engineering support throughout construction and commissioning phases.
  • Manages the resolution of field technical issues and the implementation of field change notices.
  • Oversees resident engineering activities to ensure completion within established budget and schedule and ensures timely processing of scope change trends.
  • Provides progress reports to the PEM and the broader project team.
  • Demonstrates advanced technical expertise in relevant engineering systems, calculations, construction methodologies, and associated software applications.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of related engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers.
  • Proficient knowledge of project engineering processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved and current knowledge of new methods of design and construction.
  • Experience in the planning, implementation, and coordination of 3D modeling tools like Revit, Navisworks, SP Hexagon, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in industry and regulatory codes and standards, as well as facilitating coordination for necessary approvals.
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication.
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise multidisciplinary engineering teams of varying sizes.
  • Experience with modular design projects is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in planning and executing greenfield or brownfield projects in one or more of the following market segments: Semiconductor, AI Data Center, Life Sciences / Pharma or EV Batteries.
  • Must have the right to work and remain in the US without sponsorship.
