As a Deputy Director, Supervisory Policy Analyst
, you will:- Direct the daily administrative and programmatic operations of the Arctic Energy Office in consultation with and in the absence of the Director to align activities with strategic goals.
- Formulate comprehensive policy options, strategies, and technical recommendations on Arctic and Alaskan energy initiatives.
- Monitor legislative, regulatory, and policy developments to evaluate their impact on agency programs and cybersecurity requirements.
- Represent the Department in intra-agency, interagency, and external forums to advocate for Arctic energy objectives.
- Manage organizational resources, budget allocations, and procurement activities to support mission priorities.
- Guide, consult with and/or supervise ad hoc or formal teams of specialists as circumstances dictate, by assigning work, evaluating performance, and directing personnel actions.

- New supervisors are required to complete 80 hours of supervisory training, of which 40 hours must be completed during your first year as a supervisor.
- New supervisors are required to serve a one-year probationary period.
- This position has been designated as Critical (High Risk) and requires a security clearance at the Q level. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain this clearance; failure to do so may result in separation from federal service.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing thereafter. Failure to test or a positive result on random drug tests conducted after appointment may result in removal from Federal employment.
- Situational telework may be approved at the discretion of the supervisor.
- Occasional travel required.
QualificationsSPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 3 of the 4 of the following:
- Formulating long-range strategic plans for energy, environmental, or technology programs related to Arctic and Alaskan energy.
- Evaluating the performance of subordinate or team personnel against established work standards.
- Assessing program operations for adherence to statutory regulations, policies, or administrative guidelines.
- Writing executive policy papers to provide decision-making recommendations to executive leadership.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations.
