Full Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides leadership and oversight to the Community Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner Fellowship. Acts as the primary preceptor for the Fellows in the program. Develops and implements fellowship curriculum and training content. and collaborates with consultants and/or experts in the field for program growth and development. Maintains collaborative relationships with external agency partners in the community. Refines and implements methods of program evaluation. Performs assessment and treatment planning for patients in the area of Behavioral Health. Meets regularly with program staff to address clinical issues.

JOB FUNCTION:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Participates in the recruitment and hiring of new internal CHN fellows.
  2. Acts as preceptor to the Psychiatric NP fellows:
    • Will precept fellows at health center, guiding them with patient care and mentoring them.
    • Will be accessible via cell phone and/or Skype instant messenger to answer clinical questions
  3. Develops curriculum for the community psychiatry lectures rotations, assignments, and case conferencing
    • Plans lecture and rotations schedule for fellowship year
    • Assigns fellowship homework assignments and projects
    • Reviews lecture evaluations
    • Evaluates fellows' assignments

  1. Collaborates with consultants or experts in the field for program growth and development
  2. Maintains collaborative relationships with external agency partners in the community.
  3. Refines and implements methods of program evaluation.

  1. Performs psychiatric evaluations for initial patients and medication management for established patients.
  2. Reviews and interprets medical history data and continually updates this information as necessary.
  3. Evaluates each individual patient and prescribes appropriate medication treatment and /or refer as indicated, and maintains continuity of care.
  4. Reviews all problem cases to determine course, management of treatment, and/or referral for consultation.
  5. Meets with clinical staff as necessary for treatment planning.
  6. Consults with the Director of Psychiatry and the Director of Mental Health on a regular basis.
  7. May participate in monthly staff physician conferences chaired by the Vice President of Medical Affairs/Medical Director to discuss subjects of interests to staff physicians.
  8. Maintains chart documentation in compliance with Office of Mental Health and CHN standards.
  9. Travels between Mental Health treatment sites.
  10. Meets productivity standards as determined by the Director of Psychiatry and approved by the Chief Medical Officer.
  11. Facilitates related services for health center patients and CHN staff as appropriate, with respect to their confidentiality and privacy.
  12. Performs other related duties as assigned.


WHAT WE LOOK FOR:

  • Current NYS license as Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Three years of experience as Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, preferably in a community based mental health clinic setting.
