Summary Statement

The Civil Division, Administrative Law & Education Unit, seeks a Deputy Attorney General to serve as Unit Head in the Kent County office.

This is a great opportunity to lead a dedicated team that supports the Department of Education, the Department of Insurance, the Division of Professional Regulation, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Justice's Freedom of Information Act Office as well as most of the Title 24 boards and commissions.

If selected, you will carry your own caseload and direct and manage other Deputy Attorneys General and the Assistant Unit Head; cooperate with other Unit Heads; carry out the direction and delegation of upper management; and perform other managerial tasks as needed.

Essential Functions

The unit primarily to represent the following professional administrative boards of the State: Real Estate Commission, Council on Real Estate Appraisers, Board of Professional Land Surveyors, Board of Manufactured Home Installation, Delaware Board of Occupational Therapy Practice, Board of Chiropractic, Board of Accountancy, Board of Funeral Services, Board of Electrical Examiners, Board of Plumbing, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Examiners, Commission on Adult Entertainment Establishments, Board of Charitable Gaming, Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators, Environmental Appeals Board, and Coastal Zone Industrial Control Board. The work will include advising the boards on applicable legal standards, drafting and reviewing legislation and regulations, advising on Delaware's Freedom of Information Act compliance, attending public meetings, and handling representation of the boards in court and administrative procedures including drafting orders of the board.

Job Requirements

Membership in Delaware Bar is required. The most qualified candidates have some administrative law or board representation experience; however, such expertise and experiences are not required for selection. The DAG should be able to take a proactive approach to assisting their agency clients, therefore a successful candidate should have the ability to work with State agencies to identify potential issues and assist State agencies to address such issues to minimize or avoid future legal action. The DAG should be able to work independently, meet deadlines, communicate clearly with client agencies, and should have demonstrated legal ability and a thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules.

The DAG must be available for some evenings meetings. Flex time will be allowed.
