Dean of Agriculture, Health Sciences, & Trades

Bismarck State College is seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking Dean of Agriculture, Health Sciences, and Trades to provide strategic leadership for a dynamic division serving students and industries across North Dakota.

This executive-level role is an opportunity to shape the future of programs, such as Nursing, Carpentry, Farm Management, and so much more that connect education directly to workforce needs. The Dean will lead talented faculty and staff, champion student success, strengthen academic quality, cultivate industry and community partnerships, and help BSC continue evolving to meet the needs of tomorrow's workforce.

What You'll Do
  • Lead with vision: Provide strategic direction for the Agriculture, Health Sciences, and Trades division and translate College priorities into meaningful goals, initiatives, and action plans.
  • Develop great people: Recruit, supervise, mentor, evaluate, and retain faculty and staff while fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, professional growth, and innovation.
  • Shape academic programs: Oversee program and curriculum development, review, improvement, and sustainability while ensuring programs remain relevant, innovative, and responsive to student and workforce needs.
  • Champion academic excellence: Lead assessment, program review, continuous improvement, accreditation, licensure, certification, and applicable Career and Technical Education compliance efforts.
  • Advance student success: Use data and collaboration to strengthen enrollment, retention, completion, advising, academic pathways, learning experiences, and student support.
  • Steward resources: Oversee division budgets, staffing, faculty workloads, scheduling, facilities, equipment, technology, grants, and other resources with a focus on quality, safety, sustainability, and student needs.
  • Build meaningful partnerships: Connect BSC with business and industry, healthcare, agriculture, education, state agencies, employers, advisory committees, and community partners to strengthen workforce alignment and experiential learning opportunities.
  • Provide institutional leadership: Collaborate across the College on strategic planning, policy, innovation, and shared initiatives while representing the division and BSC throughout the community and beyond.
  • Oversee Mystic Smiles Dental Clinic: In collaboration with the Vice President for Academic Affairs, provide administrative oversight of the clinic's academic, operational, regulatory, fiscal, safety, and service functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in a career or technical-related discipline, education, educational leadership, or related field from a regionally accredited college/university or progress towards a master's degree with a reasonable plan of study leading to completion.
  • Documented teaching or training experience.
  • Management and supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with individuals of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to make data-informed decisions related to enrollment and retention.
  • Highly effective communication skills.
  • Experience in building collaborations and partnerships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage time effectively to meet operational strategic goals.
  • Ability to articulate and actively support the community college philosophy as well as the major initiatives on campus (i.e., Innovation, Student Success, Retention, Academic Assessment, Institutional Effectiveness, etc.).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Earned doctorate in a career or technical-related discipline, education, educational leadership, or related field from a regionally accredited college/university.
  • Documented post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Three or more years of experience supervising professional personnel.
  • Experience in fiscal planning and budgeting.
  • An entrepreneurial approach in identifying, developing, and implementing new programs, and revitalizing existing programs.
