Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Database Administrator (Senior) to support the MODES III program supporting Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP). In this role, the selected candidate will provide senior database architecture, administration, performance tuning, backup/DR, and governance for the program databases and data platforms (RDS/Oracle/Oracle RAC, PostgreSQL, data lake integration), ensuring availability, scalability, and RMF/ATO compliance. This position is remote and requires an active Secret clearance.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Provide senior database architecture, administration, performance tuning, backup/DR, and governance for MODES III databases and data platforms (RDS/Oracle/Oracle RAC, PostgreSQL, data lake integration), ensuring availability, scalability, and RMF/ATO compliance.
  • Architect andmaintainproduction database clusters and replication (Oracle RAC, PostgreSQL clustering); design schemas and indexing strategies to support high volume analytics and dashboard queries with low latency.
  • Lead backup, recovery, and COOP planning: define RTO/RPO, implement immutable backups, automate snapshot/recovery jobs,validaterecovery through DR exercises, and document runbooks.
  • Drive performance tuning and capacity planning: monitor CPU/memory/I/O,optimizequeries and schema, plan capacity scaling, and collaborate with cloud teams on right sizing and cost optimization.
  • Secure and govern data: implement DBeAnnandale, VAyption(KMS),role basedaccess, auditing, row level security, data masking for test environments, and ensure compliance with CUI/PII handling per RMF/ATO and STIG/SRG guidance.
  • Integrate with data pipelines & analytics: support ETL/ELT needs, coordinate with Data Engineers for ingestion to data lake, manage data dictionaries and lineage for dashboard KPIs, and support ad hoc analytical queries.
  • Lead incident response & remediation for database incidents; produce forensic diagnostics, coordinate fixes, and author post incident reports/AARs feeding quality management plan improvements.
  • Familiar with: Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Amazon RDS, Redshift, Snowflake basics, replication and failover setup, RMAN and backup orchestration, Terraform/Ansible for infra automation, performance tuning tools (AWR/Explain), monitoring (CloudWatch/Prometheus/Grafana), workload optimization, capacity planning, patching/upgrade automation, crossregion replication strategies.
Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active Secret clearancerequired.
  • Experience / Education: 10 years relevant experience with BS/BA degree or 8 years with MS/MS or 6 years with Phd or 14 years w/o a degree or 12 years with AS/AA
  • Certifications: This role requires a demonstration of capability within the Cyberspace IT workforce. Successful applicants must satisfy Foundational Qualification standards via an approved industry certification (e.g., A+ or Network+) or documented equivalent military/educational training as defined in the DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eligible for Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Security Specialty) or equivalent cloud certifications.
  • Experience with cloud-native data pipelines, analytics platforms, or data lake architectures.
  • Familiarity with NIST RMF, ATO processes, and DoD security compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with cloud-native database services such as Amazon RDS, Aurora, or DynamoDB.
  • CompTIA Security+

Worklocation: Remote work with the ability to travel to the NCR if required

Target Salary Range$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual27s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
