Full Job Description
* Local Vancouver Candidates Only

Do you enjoy working close to the heart of a platform - where data reliability, performance, and availability truly matter? Do you like taking ownership of database environments while working closely with engineers and platform teams to make systems better, faster, and more resilient?

As we continue to grow our presence in North America, we're looking for a Database Administrator to help ensure our database infrastructure remains stable, secure, and ready to scale.

You'll join a collaborative, skilled team responsible for the daily operation and continuous improvement of Centiro's systems - in an environment with short decision paths, high trust, and a strong focus on quality.

About the role

As a Database Administrator at Centiro, you will have overall responsibility for the operation, performance, and reliability of our database infrastructure. Your role is central to the availability and performance of our systems.

You'll work across SQL Server and MongoDB, operating in hybrid and cloud-based environments, and collaborate closely with developers, platform engineers, and operations teams. While you'll take clear ownership of your database area, you won't work in isolation - solving problems and improving solutions together is part of how we work.

Based in Vancouver, you'll support our North American operations and collaborate with global teams across time zones. Occasional international travel is required for this role (Sweden, India, US), including extended travel during the onboarding training period.

Key Responsibilities
• Performance optimization and trend analysis.
• Daily operations and manage existing databases
• Maintain and develop routines for operating database servers
• Manage updates to new versions of SQL Server and MongoDB
• Automate existing routines for more efficient management
• Manage database permissions and security aspects of database management
• Investigate and resolve database related issues/problems
• Manage high availability, RTO/RPO and retention of data

Who you are

You're an experienced database professional who enjoys taking ownership while working closely with others where it adds value. You're structured, proactive, and comfortable operating in complex technical environments that are constantly evolving.

You communicate clearly, approach problems analytically, and care about building solutions that are robust, secure, and fit their context. You enjoy improving existing setups - not just keeping things running.

You understand the importance of teamwork but are equally comfortable working independently within your domain.

Technical experience & skills
• Strong experience with SQL Server and MongoDB
• Experience with Windows clusters, availability groups, log shipping, installation, upgrades, and migrating SQL Server
• Deep knowledge of index management, statistics, integrity checks, configuration, and patching
• Experience working with Windows and Linux servers
• Strong skills in query tuning and performance optimization
• Experience with monitoring tools and proactive database health analysis
• Working knowledge on Backup and Restore methodology - Database + Server
• Experience working in cloud environments (Azure and Google Cloud - mandatory)
• Query tuning & performance optimization
• Experience collaborating closely with developers and assist them with providing query tuning recommendations
• Scripting and automation experience (PowerShell or similar)

Nice to have
• Experience with DevOps practices
• Familiarity with BigQuery, Kubernetes, Terraform
• Experience operating databases in highly available, large-scale environments
