Full Job Description
THOR Solutions is seeking an experienced Data Scientist (Navy) to support the Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) contract in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will manage a waterfront team that provides direct engineering and technical support to the U.S. Navy Pacific Fleet, helping keep shipboard systems reliable and mission-ready.

This position is contingent upon contract award, anticipated for February 2027.

Typical Responsibilities. This position's responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Develop and apply methods to identify, collect, process, and analyze large volumes of data to build and enhance products, processes, and systems.
  • Conduct data mining and retrieval, and apply statistical and mathematical analyses to identify trends, solve analytical problems, optimize performance, maintenance, and sustainment, and improve overall processes.
  • Apply programming, statistics, and visualization to glean insights from large and disparate data sources.
  • Conduct trade studies, provide information on data quality, and perform data mining for studies regarding design space exploration.
  • Provide recommendations for improvement, and data use, including development of standards, understanding data from trade, feasibility and in-life assessments.

Location: Full time onsite at the South-West Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC) in San Diego, CA.

Typical Physical Activity:
  • Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment, as well as managing/overseeing personnel working in an active waterfront/shipboard environment.
  • May involve: repetitive motion, talking, traversing shipboard environments (e.g., tight or confined spaces, ladders, hatches), or vision.

Typical Pay Range: The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $95,000 - $120,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

Existing SECRET Security Clearance Required:This position requires an existing active or interim Secret security clearance prior to hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Master's degree in a relevant field such as operations research, data science, applied mathematics or statistics, business management, or human resources management.
  • At least seven (7) years of recent, relevant professional experience applying statistical analysis and data mining to apply, data modeling, and machine learning.
  • Experience extracting and analyzing information from large structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Experience visualizing and interpreting data report findings to create dynamic data reports.
  • Proficiency with common productivity software including the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong communication skills.
