What is the opportunity?

As a Data Governance/DQ Analyst, you will mix project and application support for the management of Meta data and Data Quality in RBC Capital Markets. On projects your focus will be the adoption of Data Governance and Data Quality principles and practices. You will be called on to find solutions to complicated data issues. Specifically you will have to capture business needs, by understanding client requirements, and work with end users to prioritize their DQ requirements and its implementation.

As a member of a dynamic, fast paced team, this role brings strong data analysis skills and leadership, effective written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic and a demonstrated capability to multi-task effectively. Represent business interests in identifying, prioritizing and resolving data related issues. This role requires strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving skills and flexibility to respond to changing priorities at times. Coordinate and lead the execution of tasks required to service the business from a data quality perspective. Train, teach, and mentor other team members to support internal growth and team success

What will you do?
  • Provide BAU support for Operations, Data Quality, Data Governance and related applications like IBM's Infosphere Information Server, Collibra.
  • Document, Monitor and Manage Data Quality Rules and Reports
  • Partner with business users in order to fully understand and capture all relevant business requirements
  • Help develop and prioritize, jointly with the business customer, remediation plan that addresses the root causes of DQ issues using best practices and guidelines and develop simple metrics that report on the outcome of the remediation activities, thereby helping improve the overall quality of Customer/Vendor Data elements.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated, approaches for data quality tasks. Documenting existing and potential data structures and data flow processes. Identify approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Ensure Capital Markets Business Meta Data is up to date and correct
  • Support Capital Markets Business Lines and Regulatory Programs in the adoption of Data Governance Principles and use of the enterprise Business Glossary platform
  • Communicate and collaborate with business clients to analyze requirements and deliver the appropriate artifacts as needed
  • Conduct data analysis in support of applications and projects, including identifying and documenting business rules, data needs and data specifications
  • Ensure that new solutions address immediate business needs, while ensuring alignment with Enterprise CDO strategy and application roadmaps.
  • Promote the Capital Markets Data Quality Center of Excellence process to all teams in CM
  • Deliver data management and governance reporting and metrics for tracking levels and progress
  • Work with internal and external IT partners during upgrades or technology enhancements
  • Participate in Risk, Audit, Compliance and Regulatory requests for the Data Management & Analytics team as required to ensure they are addressed in timely manner
  • Work closely with business and IT to ensure new data quality requirements are understood and documented effectively
  • Capture DQ metrics and reporting them to ensure visibility and tracking of progress and value
  • Facilitate the investigation into root cause of data quality issues by working with Stewardship and IT teams


What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:
  • Undergrad degree in Computer Science, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Math or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in the financial services industry
  • Data Quality functional & process knowledge
  • Strong understanding of the data lifecycle, including strong focus on data governance
  • Experience with implementing and supporting Data Quality Analysis and reporting
  • Strong knowledge of SQL to generate custom queries and analysis
  • Strong Python skills


Nice to have:
  • Working knowledge of the IBM Information Governance Catalog, Information Analyzer, DataStage & QualityStage
  • Working knowledge of DQ tools from provider like Collibra or Informatica or Ataccama
  • Tableau or other BI tool experience
  • QA experience
  • Front End design experience
  • AI and ML experience
  • Project Management experience
  • Prior experience with any of the following Regulatory initiatives- like Basel II, Basel III, Dodd Frank, FBO, Volcker etc.
  • Experience using business analysis and requirements modeling tools, for: data flow diagrams, relationship data models, business process modelling
