Job Description

Takeda is seeking a strategic, data oriented, analytical, passionate, self-starter and self-motivated individual accountable for build, operation, and continuous improvement of the data pipelines and data products that power commercial analytics across USBU and OBU. The Data Product Lead plays a pivotal role in transforming data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making. This role is central to enabling data-driven culture across the organization, particularly in high-impact environments where data modernization and AI integration are strategic priorities. This is a hands-on leadership role: the individual will manage a team while remaining close enough to the technical stack to unblock issues, review design decisions, and set engineering standards. This role sits within the OBU & USBU DD&T organization and will report to the Head of Data and Insights Engine. This role will play a crucial role in driving and navigating transformative initiatives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement, adaptability, and growth.

This Director position will be accountable to make sure the right commercial data - sales, claims, specialty pharmacy, patient services, CRM/Salesforce, and third-party syndicated data - is ingested, curated, and delivered reliably to downstream BI, reporting, and analytics consumers across both business units. This role will ensure all data usage remains compliant with data use policies and processes while maximizing value through cross-functional collaboration.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Own end-to-end delivery and uptime of commercial data pipelines (ingestion, transformation, curation) supporting USBU and OBU on Databricks/AWS.
  • Lead data platforms on-boarding /change management/ issue resolution/ data integration projects - build project plans, perform validation and organizational change activities.
  • Lead data platforms-centric projects to resolution, through resource management, execution, and communication (e.g. data onboarding, data events/disruptions).
  • Collaborate with internal business partners on data platforms validation and data coordination activities for both field-based (incentive compensation) internal reports/systems (sales forecasting).
  • Maintain inventory of data platforms and products and promote organizational awareness of application of data in relevant use cases.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new data platforms that may provide new insights, competitive advantage and help advise future data strategy.
  • Ensure that vendors align with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) by ensuring data quality, timely delivery, errors reported, time to resolution to data inquiries, account services etc.
  • Set and enforce engineering standards for pipeline design, version control, testing, and deployment (CI/CD) to ensure production-grade reliability.
  • Drive rationalization and reuse of pipeline logic across USBU and OBU to reduce duplication and total cost of ownership.
  • Define and maintain the roadmap for core commercial data products (e.g., integrated sales/claims data marts, HCP/account 360 views, patient journey datasets) in partnership with brand, field ops, and analytics stakeholders.
  • Build a team culture of ownership, documentation discipline, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure all commercial data handling complies with relevant privacy, compliance, and data governance policies (HIPAA, state privacy law, internal data governance standards).
  • Partner with Data Governance, IT Security, and Legal/Compliance on access controls, data retention, and vendor data usage terms.
  • Partner with vendor management on third-party data feeds (e.g., IQVIA, Komodo, specialty pharmacy, claims aggregators) to ensure timely, high-quality delivery into the platform.
  • Collaborate with enterprise data platform and architecture teams to align with broader commercial data strategy.

EDUCATIONAL, BEHAVIORIAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (Master's a plus).
  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering or data platform roles, including 4+ years managing a technical team.
  • Demonstrated experience building and operating production data pipelines on cloud platforms (AWS preferred) using Databricks, Spark, or equivalent.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical healthcare and/or pharma healthcare consulting industry with focus on Data Governance, data management or analytics working with commercial data sets.
  • Must have experience in commercial pharma data management, data warehousing, master data management, data governance, reporting or analytics
  • Must have experience and deep understanding of different types of syndicated commercial pharma datasets across Claims, Retail Sales, Non-retail Sales, Trade data, Specialty Pharmacy (SP/SD), Hub, Formulary, Co-pay, Prescriber-Plan data, EMR/EHR, Diagnostic data, Shipment, Inventory, Non-personal Promotion data, Speaker Programs, Email Campaigns, Digital Data (HCP Portal, Patient Portal, Brand websites, Third-party website), Conferences etc
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and in-person presentation skills in a persuasive and appropriate manner. Ability to frequently communicate changes and indentations with high level of transparency to all stakeholders
  • Must be capable and will have the authority to make business, including organizational change management, governance and process decisions in OBU function after consulting and alignment with key stakeholders
  • Ability to think strategically about key business questions, insights and recommend solutions that align with business strategy and achieve the greatest business impact
  • Proven ability to work within a cross regional, functional, multicultural, and virtual context (matrix organization)
  • Able to handle a complex environment of constant change, proven success in a fast paced, and challenging business environment.
